*UPDATE*

This FW will increase 10-24dbm/rssi wireless signal strength over stock/other FWs, depending on router model.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

After flashing the FW you need to CLEAN NVRAM and RESET TO DEFAULTS, you can change after your needed NVRAM SETTINGS, they will not be reverted anymore to the original CFE values.

NOTE: PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE POWER LIMITS ALLOWED ON YOUR COUNTRY, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS RESPECT YOUR COUNTRY SPECIFIC RULES REGARDING POWER LEVELS.

MY COUNTRY MAXIMUM ALLOWED POWER LEVEL IS 100MW AND THE ORIGINAL FW WAS CONFIGURED TO 80MW ONLY, I COULD NOW SET IT TO 100MW.

SALUUT! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Echoing the others, can we have more information?

MD5 or SHA checksums would be appreciated as well. :)

Unlock means you don't need to edit CFE to have all channels and power levels on the routers.

I didn't create any git for now but i will soon, unfortunatelly i'm missing time on these season.

If anyone wants to give it a try, please be my guest.

So if i understand this is Melins latest build unlocked so the region and power can be changed with out the need to edit the boot loader. I know there was a thread about region and power for the 68U but what code would need to be run for the N66U to increase power?

Thanks, tried earlier on RT-AC68U 1.0.2.0EU, a little bit confusing.
But managed get it working I think, at least according to nvram.
but all of the sudden 5G dissapeared "in the air"

GUI:Wireless - General and Wireless - Professional both =OK
But
Tools - System Information
Temperatures 2.4 GHz: 48°C - 5 GHz: disabled - CPU: 72°C

My test was when this thread was unreachable so back to Merlin_376.49

Quite a few of these updated packages aren't even used by the firmware, such as gdb or ntfs-3g, and a few others are linked to closed source components (openssl is linked against AiCloud and asuswebstorage, sqlite is linked against bwdpi, etc...) so they should not be blindly upgraded. radvd is no longer used by the firmware either.

We already discussed this in the past, i tested at the time when i first update those packages and all of those services worked just fine.

Unless there's complains about them i will revert those 2 packages.

Yes i know radvd and the others are not used anymore, but i have updated those packages long time ago when they were used, and i keep them in place.

hggomes,

First, thank you for your contributions to these forums. Great to see all these options on our Asus routers.

What I would like is an executive summary on the first post that gives a high level overview of the intent or purpose of these firmware options.

I appreciate that the power will be 'unlocked', but after that, what specific differences from either the stock firmware or the RMerlin versions should one expect?

Thank you for any feedback on this.

Hi, i think you missed my previous post:

http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=155458&postcount=5

My FWs changes are "only" those 50 package updates, power & channel unlocking and a custom MOTD, nothing more.

finally now i can use the full wireless strength for 5 Ghz. Is there a failsafe if something breaks?

Yes, your Mikrotik routers :)

Ive tried the firmware but couldnt find the PPPOE server.

pppoe-server can be used only via command line (ssh) not via webui.

Some pages require loading twice sometimes. Other than that it works.

Clean your browser cache or try another browser, if you search on this forum you will find more people "complaining" about the same "issue" on ASUS Stock FW, RMerlin, Forks and others. It has nothing to do with the firmware itself, but with browser.

Flash it and clean your nvram and reset to defaults, then see the output of those:

nvram show | grep ccode
nvram show | grep reg
nvram show | grep country
nvram show | grep power

I have never encountered the browser problem before. I managed to set it up in router mode but have it to act as an AP so that i can use the services it has like AIcloud but i think it should add aerofs to the list too. I dont think there is a bridge mode for WAN.

One thing asus routers cant do that mikrotiks can is be part of multiple networks at the same time (1 interface, multiple ips).

Other than that your custom fork of merlin firmware works without any problems so far running at 1.4Ghz

Great to know, tks for the feedback.

You can do it, but not on ASUS firmware.
