I know there are much more experience professionals on this board than I am so I would like to see if you guys have any advice on the proper settings to use for Xbox live. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

I´m also interested in these settings. If someone have tips (type of NAT offloading UPnP and so on).

There really isn't a specific xbox live setup on the router. Just use auto IP address in system settings on the xbox and in the router give it a static IP under LAN>DHCP Server. As for NAT Type you can use Full Cone NAT or the default Classical Linux Hybrid NAT both work fine and still give the xbox an OPEN NAT.

Under WAN, Offload everything that you can, I offload TCP/UDP for LAN/WiFi.

UPnP works fine and shouldn't need to open ports, I just run regular UPnP instead of UPnP/NAT-PMP I tried UPnP/NAT-PMP and found the entire router itself would slow down (download speeds slowed from 90Mbps to about 10-20Mbps).

I play with an ethernet cable, I don't play wirelessly. Anything further that I can do to improve my connection?

in Xbox Dashboard you can use alternative DNS Servers. I use in Dashboard Google DNS Servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Since I have done this my game experience improved much.

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

withe the tool namebecnh you can find the best and fastest DNS Server for you.

I don´t know why it improved gaming for me, maybe its because my Router don´t have to act like a DNS Server.

I went ahead and changed them to my recommended DNS servers within my routers DHCP settings. Is this okay too or do I need to change them on the Xbox as well?

it´s ok in the Router then all clients use them. But I only want to use them in xbox live so I don´t change the settings in the Router - only in xbox Dashboard.
My Computer should connect like before :)

For me Google DNS or OPEN DNS are the fastest.

I ran the program that you posted above and I was able to configure my DNS to new DNS that are 51% faster than the ones I was using before!

I would suggest to reserve your Xbox's IP and configure port Forwarding for Xbox Live services to the IP you reserve.

because of this link

http://www.bufferbloat.net/projects/codel/wiki/Best_Practices_for_Benchmarking_CoDel_and_FQ_CoDel

and this:

Network hardware (even in cheap hardware!) has grown "smart", with offload engines of various sorts. Modern network hardware has often sprouted various "offload" engines, unfortunately now often enabled by default, which tend to do more damage than good except for extreme benchmarking fanatics, often primarily on big server machines in data centers. Start by turning them off. We'll write more on this topic soon. The implementers of this "smart" hardware are less "smart" than they think they are.

I disable all offloading. I will see if it increase my gaming experience or not.

No need if we use UPnP because it "only" opens NAT. I don´t think we get better latency.

Correct UPnP will handle that fine, but would your NAT not be considered moderate and not allow you to be host in most games. If you want the full live experience I believe its best to Forward.

Also, what options are you using to disable offloading???

with UPnP my Ports are open.

in WAN Menue I change

Hardware offload NAT/Routing IPv4: disable (slow)

first thing I noticed - much better hitmarkers in Call of Duty? But I have to check longer. I can only after a week say if its good or not. First impression is very good !

I enabled the option "Respond Ping Request from WAN?".

UIt seems that the games run better - but I´m not sure. Someone knows if it is a security risk to enable it?

I'm on Pavadans custom firmware. Where is this setting found? I don't see it anywhere.

there are many Tutorials for best connections out there. But this one is one of the best.

https://forums.halowaypoint.com//yaf_postst38708_How-To-Improve-YOUR-Connection-and-Open-NAT.aspx

especially this part I was intersted:

"After that, change your ethernet cords to CAT6 Ethernet Cables. Though Xbox 360 cannot fully utilize them, they are significantly more reliable than CAT5, if for nothing more than lower packet loss. Be aware that having a CAT6 cable between your Xbox and Router means nothing if you're still using a CAT5 or CAT5e between your Router & Modem."

I searched on the net and there are many people who say it will help nothing.
But I also know 2 network specialists and asked them. They tell the xbox don´t need it but the higher Bandwith will be better (the Router is a gigabit router) an the packet loss is decreasen in some cases.

The price for a CAT6 Ethernet Cable is almost the same like Cat5e so I bougt the CAT6 cables an removed ALL other cables.

The first impression is very good. On my PC I get higher upload rates than before !
