At least this is based on a kernel that doesn't have a soft IRQ issue, I do believe. Too bad it is not the recent dual core processor with uber acceleration. Nice to see PCIe 2.0 being utilized.

Guess the cat is out of the bag now :) I first saw references to the RT-AC56U a few weeks ago in the GPL code.

ARM based is interesting. That might explain why there's now an ARM directory on their new Asusware repo - at first I thought it was for a NAS.

Should it work with your version of the ASUS firmware ?

No. Totally different architecture. Even the CPU instruction set is different (ARM instead of MIPS). Do not even try to flash it!

Hmmm... so the RT-AC67U will be top of the line model?

What are the main hardware changes compared to AC66U? Besides the looks :).
Different CPU? Antenas etc?

Is this architecture the new direction for ASUS routers ?

The architecture change isn't a decision from Asus, but from the SoC maker (Broadcom), and for this particular SoC. So it depends on which SoC Asus chooses to use for a given router.

Does anyone have this router or can someone know if the usb 3.0 transfers at full speed? I currently have a 3tb external hdd usb 3.0 and it transfers around 16 megabytes a sec...

AFAIK that router isn't on the market yet.

I highly doubt it will be able to push up to 4 Gbits/s off a USB disk, considering the CPU inside the router. Current USB 3.0 routers can barely hit 300-400 Mbits.

Its better than the 125 mbit i get from the ac router..

I'm talking about disk performance, not wireless throughput.

Asus RT-AC50U/56U/67U

Asus RT-AC56U Router Preview :D CES 2013 Day 0 - ASUS Networking Products (3:30)

In terms of speed, the RT-AC56U has two bands (2.4GHz/5GHz) that concurrently top at 1167Mbit/s. While not the fastest in the ASUS networking arsenal, this is more than enough to cover you even if you’re on a rare true Gigabit connection. Inside we find a fifth generation Broadcom chipset that is at the heart of 802.11ac optimisation.

You can see quite clearly that the RT-AC56U has both USB 3.0 and USB 2.0, so connect away: printers, external storage, even 3G/4G adapters. This is more than a router, it can easily become a server to share resources, something ASUS networking products are very keen on doing.

Asus new routers for wireless network 802.11ac up to 1.3 Gbps.

Faster wireless networks comes when Asus updates the range routers.
There are three new models of 802.11n and 802.11ac.

1: Asus RT-AC67U and delivers support for 802.11n 450 Mbps and 802.11ac for up to 1.3 Gbps.
2: Asus RT-AC56U with 300 Mbps 802.11n and 802.11ac up to 900 Mbps.
3: Asus RT-AC50U for 300 and 450 Mbps.

The new routers come with built-in switch for Gigabit Ethernet (4 +1 ports)
and supports the Asus cloud service, AI Cloud. Coming in July or September.

The RT-AC67U looks like the successor to the RT-AC66U. Would love to see how the ARM CPU handles itself compared to the current MIPS ones.

Exactly :D

I'm going to keep pestering ASUS Singapore in return pester ASUS Taiwan HQ for one set of ASUS RT-AC56U for a early preview

Asus RT-AC68U

From what I saw in recent FW releases, I think the RT-AC67U has been renamed to RT-AC68U.
We know next to nothing about this router yet as it hasn't been officially announced.
