    Dual band router wireless questions

I don't know why it would have left the 5GHz connection and go to the 2.4GHz. Strength of the 5 did not change significantly nor did the 2.4 change enough to overpower the 5. I created a separate SSID name for the 5GHz and connected to it instead of letting the device decide.

    Dual band router wireless questions

I understand I can have separate SSIDs and "force" my laptop to always connect to the 5GHz band. You are saying it is my device that is the reason why when it first connects to the router (when first installed or after a reboot) it attaches to the 5GHz and then eventually switches to the...

    Dual band router wireless questions

Thanks for the replies. Like I knew, using the same SSID for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz the device will choose which to connect to. So why does my laptop, which is capable of using either band, connect to 5GHz just fine but after a day or two it switches to 2.4GHz and will never connect back...

    Dual band router wireless questions

I just got the Cellspot router from T-Mobile which is a rebranded ASUS TM-AC1900 which I understand is top of the line. So far my experience has not been good. I was told to name the 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSIDs the same so the device can choose which to connect to. Is that correct? Doing it...

    Link Rate won't exceed 65Mbps

If only. It's been set with WPA2 since day one. I've learned to live with it.

    Channel selection questions

After experiencing several issues with my new wireless set up including my SSID disappearing http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=8128 I used inSSIDer to check things out. I switched to channel 1 rather than auto and things have been running pretty well (touch wood). SSID...

    SSID disappears

You never told me exactly which wireless adapter your NE has. Is it the AR5B125 or just PCI-e? I have an NE in the box and am tempted to open it and see but I really want the larger HD and better processor of the NV. I never should have returned the one with the Broadcom wireless adapter as I...

    SSID disappears

2nd PC was an exchange of the first so identical wireless adapter, a low end Atheros. Can it really be on the PCs end because I can see other networks just not mine. When the SSID disappeared and I had reconnected by turning wireless on the router off/on I went through troubleshooting and...

    SSID disappears

Different computer, different router and it keeps losing the SSID. What does this mean? I can't have a wireless connection just disappear. It is different than a disconnect. It's not the ! it's the sunburst.

    SSID disappears

First I could not find the 2nd place you mention. Can you give more detail? Under the Home icon there were two listed. SSID and SSID 2. SSID 2 was listed as in use. I deleted SSID and renamed SSID 2 to SSID. Then I noticed although it says in use it is listed as "unmanaged". That can't...

    SSID disappears

Adding to my other issues is I have a problem with my SSID disappearing. My laptop (only wireless device) will be connected. Maybe for hours. I will notice the yellow star over the wireless icon. Checking on networks will show my SSID is no longer visible. Other wireless networks are...

    Link Rate won't exceed 65Mbps

Do you have a specific model number for the Atheros card? Mine is ARB125. Otherwise based on the drivers, the Atheros wireless card in my NV56 is most likely the same as the one in your NE56 (which I also had at one time). Knowing the Atheros is 1x1 single stream. How is it possible for you...

    Link Rate won't exceed 65Mbps

So you are saying it is my router as I assume those devices mentioned are higher quality routers. What NIC card does your lower priced Gateway have?

    Link Rate won't exceed 65Mbps

Typical newer subdivision with houses pretty close together. So any router with 300Mbps capability is probably a waste. I might as well get the N150 or equivalent from another manufacturer.

    Link Rate won't exceed 65Mbps

Probably correct but I still wonder why this second computer with the single stream card gets a better signal? It picks up networks I never saw on the other computer with the dual stream and my signal strength is better. And don't forget this computer with the single stream also connected at...
