Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.7 beta is now available

That makes sense: the old "Enabled + Helpers" is the exact equivalent to the new "Enabled". Likewise, the previous "Enabled" only (my case), should (and did), upgrade to the new "Disabled"(which only stops the ALG helpers, and does not block the relevant packet types).

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.7 beta is now available

In my case, without doing a default reset when upgrading from the last stable firmware version to the second alpha, all of my relevant settings went from "Enabled" (NOT the "Enabled + Helpers" setting), to the newly recommended "Disabled". This was initially very confusing until we started to...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.7 beta is now available

No, the advice you are giving is for the old way, clearly you have not read the release notes. From here forward, the default (and recommended setting) is "Disabled", as this will still allow these types of packets to pass through. The setting of "Enabled" only turns on the ALG helpers. There...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 386.13 beta is now available for AC models

A couple of observations here: the page header/descriptive text reads: "Enable NAT Passthrough to allow a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to pass through the router to the network clients." Does this really have anything to do with VPN connections? Also, while those of us who have...

Isolating home security cameras and providing remote access?

On that note (security camera software), my preference is for the Windows based BlueIris. Just do a Dual NIC based computer setup and that makes it simple to isolate the cameras from directly reaching out to the internet (they can be on one NIC and switch on a subnet with no gateway defined)...

Isolating home security cameras and providing remote access?

Just setup an OpenVPN server connection to your home network, then you can directly access the wired Dahua cameras via their IP address (hopefully fixed/static IP addressing has been applied to each camera). Can't help you with the Wyze cameras, as I've never used those. I assume they have to be...

    Diversion Diversion 5.1.2 - the Router Ad-Blocker, April 21, 2024

Bizarrely, I do see their "Terms of Use" and "Privacy" policy links underneath the email address login area. But I do fully agree that the privacy aspects might be a bit sketchy, some portions of it include the following:

    Diversion Diversion 5.1.2 - the Router Ad-Blocker, April 21, 2024

I was close to replying in similar manner, as that was both my understanding as well as my own experience with the large version of the oisd list: no false positives here (in the admittedly small sample size test of just my own household). Glad to hear that perhaps other factors may have...

OpenVPN configuration not compatible with OpenVPN Connect 3.4.0

It sounds like you need to completely reset the OpenVPN connection and generate new certificates: use the "reset to default" button. Then reconfigure from scratch, with new 2048 bit certificate, and ultimately re-export your config file to your devices. A hassle, but probably the only way to...

    amtm amtm 4.5.1 - the Asuswrt-Merlin Terminal Menu, April 28, 2024

Yeah, I did see the option to re-use the previous Entware installation, but was REALLY trying to do what I could at that point to avoid any router reboots (the whole family was back and reliant on the network by that time, including various IPTV streams running, etc...).

    amtm amtm 4.5.1 - the Asuswrt-Merlin Terminal Menu, April 28, 2024

Ugh, I got bitten by this bug (all Entware wiped out/non-functional and various scripts needed repair/re-install) when upgrading amtm yesterday, but I had chalked it up to just bad luck. I had also quickly followed it up with a firmware update to 388.6 Beta1, so I wasn't sure which one caused...

Why do I need a Let's Encrypt certificate?

Yes, sorry I worded that phrase poorly, I understand that it also is needed for https access to the router configuration pages. That still seems to me to be overkill, as it really should only be accessible from inside my own lan, where if I need to be that concerned about http: vs. https...

Why do I need a Let's Encrypt certificate?

Thanks, I guess in my case I have never really needed either one. My DDNS seems to update just fine (OpenDNS) without needing a certificate, so is this only for the Asus DDNS service?

Why do I need a Let's Encrypt certificate?

Can someone refresh my memory on why we need the whole Let's Encrypt certificate in the first place? Presumably we only care about this if we insist on enabling https: access to the router and are shutting off simple http: access, right?
