Which Asus router to get if I don't care about wifi?

I have verified that she runs the vpn client on her computer, so the RT-AC66U-B1 it is. Thanks, everyone!

Which Asus router to get if I don't care about wifi?

Thank you for the replies. I will find out for certain, but I'm pretty sure that she plans on using her computer as a vpn client, not the router. The speed is well over 50/50 (> 200/200), but from the replies it sounds like that doesn't matter if she uses her computer as the client. So the...

Which Asus router to get if I don't care about wifi?

Our last 2 routers have been Asus routers, so we're most comfortable working with them. My SIL is moving into a new house that comes wifi ready, but isn't wired-friendly. We're going to run cables from either the AT&T modem, or the managed switch (where the modem is plugged in), into a couple...

    Frustrating ftp upload problem!

Thanks, John. I'm pretty sure the firewall allows the ftp clients I've tried, as they are all successful as long as each file takes less than 20 minutes (based on what I noticed this morning). I can upload dozens of smaller files without any problems whatsoever. No 3rd party AV; just Windows...

    Frustrating ftp upload problem!

The active (PORT) transfer acted identically. I'm strictly Windows; I'm now trying the command prompt's ftp program. But even using debug mode, there doesn't seem to be much of interest so far (just the same messages I was already seeing in the ftp clients I had been using). I will update...

    Frustrating ftp upload problem!

I'm trying active ('PORT') now, as I had always used PASV mode before. Also binary transfer, not ASCII. I have the client set up for resuming, but they always start re-sending from the beginning. There are numerous FTP sites, likely all running different server software. The one I'm trying...

    Frustrating ftp upload problem!

I did a little experimenting, and found that a file of 784MB that took 20:39 failed, whereas a file of 768MB that took 19:56 was successful. So I'm wondering if there might be something on my system with a 20:00 time limit?

    Frustrating ftp upload problem!

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask such a question, but I've had some wonderful help here in the past, and hours of googling over the past year hasn't brought me an answer. I have a problem when uploading larger files via ftp, regardless of the ftp client that I use (I've tried...

ASUS RT-N66U client ftp timeout problem

I was subscribed to this thread; that wasn't the problem. The problem was even more obvious -- wrong email address! :o Wish I could solve my ftp problem as easily. :)

ASUS RT-N66U client ftp timeout problem

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why I never seem to get email notifications of replies. :( Unfortunately I didn't find anything useful in the link. This is a rather unusual situation in that it works fine for exactly 1 hour before disconnecting. So normal ftp problem solving doesn't help...

ASUS RT-N66U client ftp timeout problem

I am encountering a persistent and consistent issue when attempting to upload a file via ftp from my computer to a server over the internet. Whenever the file transfer has been going on for exactly one hour, the connection is reset. I have been assured that the server has no such timeout...

Slow computer-computer wired LAN speed on new RT-N66U

This is a 6 or 7 year old abit (AB9 QuadGT) motherboard, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Realtek chip had problems with gigabit speeds on most of them, under any OS. And if they haven't fixed it by now with the driver, it obviously is hardware related. But nothing a good $30 Intel...

Slow computer-computer wired LAN speed on new RT-N66U

I did find an updated driver on Realtek's website (though it was only a little more recent than the installed one). Unfortunately, it didn't improve the situation one bit. I also found an old Intel 10/100 NIC lying around, and installed that one. It works MUCH better -- in fact (not...

Slow computer-computer wired LAN speed on new RT-N66U

Thanks wouterv, your post has really helped. 1. The problem is not router-related. 2. The problem seems to be the gigabit controller in one of the computers. I hooked up another computer to our LAN, and my computer could copy from or write to the other computer at a sustained rate of 110...

Slow computer-computer wired LAN speed on new RT-N66U

Thanks for the replies. RMerlin, excellent idea. As the title suggests, both computers are using a wired connection to the router. I replaced both cables, but sadly no difference. They are Cat 5e, but that points out a difference between the routers. Our old router had 10/100 ports, while...
