Budget Router for covering 2200 sqft apartment

I don't think any single router will cover that size apartment... Not well anyway. With that budget I'd look on Ebay for a used modem AC router...

Are Ubiquiti APs better than converted ASUS routers?

Thanks, good info. I think the issues are mostly interference, I often do a site survay and see that neighbours have changed their frequencies (maybe router doing it automatically) or new SSIDs pop up. Most people have no idea about 5GHz/2.4GHz and bandwidth etc.... they wouldn't know what I was...

Are Ubiquiti APs better than converted ASUS routers?

As a matter of interest, are devices such as Ubuiquiti's APs (and similar APs designed for miltiple APs on one SSID) actually better than multiple Asus APs? I have a two story apartment made from steel reinforced concrete with lots of interference from neighbours. My AC87u (router + AP) and...

What is the point for a patch panel for home network?

The cables in my house (Cat7a AWG22 1500MHz) are really thick, >8mm - I'd never get an RJ45 plug on that that. It's a lot easier to patch cables to a panel than it is to connect RJ45 plugs.....patch panels make it easier to keep track of what goes where and it looks nicer. I also use my...

    N5550 rebuild issues

Good luck.... I have a N5550 too, I just don't the software - I think the hardware is rock solid though. I started paying for some space on Google Drive recently in order to backup my stuff (just in case), I am getting a new QNAP soon - I'll be able to relax then an cancel my Google subsrciption.

    Qnap 253a or 251?

I do a lot pf Plex transcoding - the more horsepower the better I used to host my Plex server on an Atom NAS, I since moved to an Intel i7, the atom worked for some streams but it was limited. An N3150 will be better, but you will sometimes have issue with it. Get the fastest CPU you can...

Joint Alliance Pushing 2.5 Gbps and 5 Gbps Into The Mainstream

When do you think one could realistically expect 2.5/5GBe switches and NICs to be on the market? Will it still take 2 or more years? I have heard that some existing hardware has comparability built in or only needs firmware upgrades, not sure how true this is.

    USB3 Interference warning

Could one add usb connectors to a cat7 or even better cat7a cable? Might that but a sure solution?

    Looking for a fast RAID5 4x 3TB setup

okay, so I just realised that the 431 is ARM based, 2x A9 which is really pretty slow, even for a cell phone....It should be fine for 110MB/sec but I am not 100% sure - please check with someone who has used it. The 451/451+ with an INTEL CPU will definitely be good enough. If you know for...

    Looking for a fast RAID5 4x 3TB setup

All of the NASes you mentioned should work just fine. I have an old Atom based NAS from Thecus, it's pretty crappy and it even has no problem providing ~110MB/sec TP. I only see slow down when multiple devices connect to it or when the NAS is processing something else. A used a link aggregation...

Synology nas ds1815+ or qnap tsv-471

The CPU in the Synology is too weak for 4k transcoding....(Atom C2538) - I'd definitely get the QNAP. Even the entry level TVS-471 has far more horsepower, and the CPU can even be upgraded. Even if you're not transcoding ever. the ATOM CPU will be a lot slower than the QNAP for plenty of things...

new ASUS BRT-AC828 ( Wireless-AC2600 Dual WAN VPN Router)

According to this, it has an m.2 SSD. Nice - I can see that being useful for some things, especially as they get cheaper. Certainly better than a USB stick! I wonder what else it does. I'm still hoping to see >1Gb LAN (not this year I expect, but soon maybe) before making a new purchase...

    Connecting QNAP TS-453mini.

I'd recommend this link, it explains link aggregation well (better than I have ever seen elsewhere) https://delightlylinux.wordpress.com/2014/07/12/speed-up-your-home-network-with-link-aggregation-in-linux-mint-17-and-xubuntu-14-04/ You can of course increase bandwidth with link aggregation...
