    Routers & switches

Please forget about jumbo frames on the WAN side. Even if it is supported you will gain nothing on speed.

MetaGeek Moves To Pay Model For New inSSIDer

To me it's worth about $10. I think $20 is too much. Well.. $20 is OK for lifetime upgrades. By the way.. The OS X versions costs only $5.

I believe the teaming was done using Intel Server NICs.

How We Test Wireless Products - Revison 7

It is nice that you notice the flaws of the current way of testing wireless on most/all sites. I think there is no 100% fair way to test wifi products. Maybe manufacturers should mention the type and radiation pattern of the antennas that are used. Then customers could make a better decision...

Issues getting LACP working with HP Procurve 2824

I don't use port-channels at home, but a few months ago a colleague showed me his Windows 8 desktop connected to a Windows 2012 server using 3x 1 gigabit links. He copied a single file using regular windows filesharing: 280 MByte/s.

Issues getting LACP working with HP Procurve 2824

Maybe you should have informed yourself better... This is expected behaviour in nearly every situation. Load is balanced based on source or destination IP or MAC address. File copy between 2 hosts has 1 source and 1 destination address, so this will allways choose 1 link => 1 gigabit. There is...

    Ethernet Test Tools - Options?

What I would do: 1. connect a PC (gigabit) to both sides of every cable 2. run iperf for about a minute in both directions. 3. check if you have any errors on the interfaces. Windows: netstat -e Linux: ifconfig You should have no or very few (1 or 2) errors.

Config Edgerouter for Internet with Dynamic IP and PPPoE

I'm not really into DSL... but If your modem is in bridgemode, you do not have to worry about VCI, VPI and encapsulation. The PPPoE part is probably also handled by the modem. Can you get an IP address on eth0 from your DSL modem? Even if the modem is in bridgemode, you should be able to...

    Wanted: Managed Switch Recommendation

I am using a Netgear GS108Tv2 powered by a Netgear GS110TP switch. Both switches work great. 2 minor complaints... the webinterface is very slow and VLAN configuration is not very straightforward. If you need to configure several vlans and different vlan configurations per port.. please take...

Gigabit Switches, any daisy chain effect?

That's no problem. It will not give you any noticeable delays.

    Juniper SRX220

I use a SRX210 for some time now. I think it is a great router. The CLI is absolutely fantastic when compared to Cisco or any other well known router brand. The web interface is awful, on the other hand. I have disabled the web interface on my router. The router supports about every protocol...

How To Set Up Switch Link Aggregation

This depends on what kind of load-balancing the Synology supports and the configuration. In most situations at home you will not have any benefit when using link aggregation because the load balancing scheme chooses the same interface for connections between the same source and destination...
