    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.47 is out

RMerlin. I found an odd bug in 376.47. I use a RT-N66U and a RT-AC66U as ethernet bridges. I use only the 5 GHz channel. The Asus firmware automatically disables the 2.4 GHz band when you select a 5 GHz AP. When I upgraded to 376.47 from 376.45 I noticed on Inssider that there was two new AP's...

    AC66U Transmit Power

Hi polar! There is no unsafe power setting that will harm your router. The hardware chipset has physical limits built into it that will prevent harm. The Wifi drivers in the firmware dynamically control the power output depending on environmental conditions. So the driver can change the power...

Alpha 7 5GHZ works better with iPhone 5s Hi RMerlin! The RT-AC68U Alpha 7 build has been working better with my iPhone 5S. I use the 5GHz band and throughput and connection has always been inconsistent. Uploaded Alpha 7 and throughput has been consistent higher and connections more reliable...

    Power at 1496 mW on powerup/reboot? [AC66U ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4]

Hi Smedley! Its really non linear now. A few years ago it was more straight forward, set your power level and that what you got. Now Broadcom and the manufactures use a dynamically adjusting drivers and a power table. I think things like beam forming are taking even more power control out of our...

    Power at 1496 mW on powerup/reboot? [AC66U ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4]

Hi Smedley! That must be some kind of inside joke at ASUS. The mW input into the transmit power field does not represent the actual mW output from the antenna's. The real output power of the router varies from 200 to 300 mW depending on the channel and the country you are in. All the real mW...

    Power at 1496 mW on powerup/reboot? [AC66U ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4]

Hi ml70! The router is not outputting 1496 mW. This is simply a user request for 31.75 dbm / 1496 mw. The router is going to give you the best that it can based in built in power output table in the wifi driver. The driver dynamically adjust the outpower based on the country code and the...

New Netgear R6300v2, Dual Core Processor

    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

Wiped NVRAM between each firmware test. Always standard practice. Already tried 5GHz channels 48, 149 and 161. No go on iPad 2 and 5GHz. May have to reset wireless on iPad. All settings the same between test. Signal is still weaker and throughput is less on both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

    ASUS RT-AC66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.372

New ASUS .372 driver test. So far my experience with this driver has been negative. I have a certain location that I test from so that I can easily compare changes. Model used is RT-AC66U at 5GHz with a Killer Wireless N 1103 Notebook adapter. Using inSSIDer and downloading from my NAS. .354...
