    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

Well they did publish new firmware 1.4.0.34 yesterday on their web site. Orbi still doesn't see it in the web interface but if you are interested in flashing here is he link: http://kb.netgear.com/000036569/RBR50-RBS50-Firmware-Version-1-4-0-34 Release notes are sparse: New Features and...

Yes it does isolate guest network from your local network. On the advanced tab in the guest network configuration page there is check box for the access rights for the "guest" network. Wireless Settings Enable Guest Network Enable SSID Broadcast Allow guests to see each other and access my...

That means that some script kiddie is scanning IP addresses and open ports. The background noise of the internet. This is why we use firewalls in the first place. This is a message stating the firewall in the router just protected you.

This is a known issue it's not really blocked. I have one of my devices showing blocked when I gave I a name but it still accesses the internet.

Yes every adapter both wired and wireless has a MAC but that is for the Orbi not the computer. You can try but I don't think it will work.

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

It's possible and I think the same question was asked on the Netgear site also by your clone Dan_H ;) I don't have a good way anymore to capture packets to and from Orbi to check vlan like I did at the office to validate. Does your internet router have a packet capture utility such as TCPDUMP...

When in AP mode your upstream router does all the routing including access controls. The AP mode is MAC layer 2 so unless you write some MAC layer transport VLAN tagging for the clients identified on the guest network there isn't anything native that I can think of.

I found a couple of issues that will effect the traffic meter. One is that if your clock isn't being set and the other is one of the firmware flashes (don't remember) reset the checkbox. The .16 to .18 left the checkbox alone.

Nice review. Still see issues with mesh as defined by the latest entries. For some reason they all seem to require "apps" to configure and a web service on the internet to manage the mesh. Orbi was the only one I found that didn't need the app or constant internet access to keep the mesh...

Netgear updated the firmware of Orbi to 1.4.0.18. The release notes say it fixes the satellite sync issue and remote app support. Here is the link to the firmware notes: http://kb.netgear.com/000036450/RBR50-RBS50-Firmware-Version-1-4-0-18

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

I found something that is very interesting in the Orbi, if you turn on QOS there is no way to turn it off! Who designed this firmware? Unless I am missing something, any ideas on how to turn it off without a factory reset that was recommended on the Netgear product site?

That is the way I deployed my Orbi and it's working fine. I need the one on the far end of downstairs due to reception issues in the living and dining rooms due to mirrors and other obstructions.
