Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

Hi there, This is odd, because as I explained it differs from my UK bought Asus AC68U... I have access to all the channels that I expect, and a look at the CFE suggests it's operating at the maximum permissaible power too... Simon

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4376

No longer listed as JP only on the international site (Win8.1 download section), but not picking it up from the firmware auto update feature.

    New Router working as AP

I asked this question of Netgear via their support team, and was staggered to get the same response. It's the reason I sent the R7000 straight back and got an AC68U instead (also just running as an AP). Very happy with the later!

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

Update OK, I"ve tried running on each of channels 132, 136 and 140. Whilst 132 and 136 each gave me a 40MHz channel as expected, 140 just gave me a 20MHz channel (as in no channel bonding at all), which is odd, as I would've thought that the extension channel would be 136 or 132. Anyway...

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

Hello! That is correct. I've just rechecked, and this are definitely the channels that are available. It's running the latest EU firmware (the absolute latest firmware is JP only so I haven't loaded that). FWIW I've rechecked the **excellent** Wifi Nigel WhitePaper available here and it...

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

To answer my own question, picked up an AC68U here in the UK. It's hardware version 1.70 and came with CFE 1.0.2.0 (EU). Upgraded to the latest version 3.0.0.4.378_3873 resetting and rebooting along the way and I have my DFS channels. Whoop!

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

Thanks to the kind folks who've replied so far. For what its worth I spoke with Netgear support who tell me that they have no date or timeline for when DFS channels are coming to the r7000 in the EU, if at all. I realise they were available in a beta firmware mentioned on their forums, and...

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

Hey! You seem to know a lot about this so you're probably the right person to ask. I bought an R7000 last week but may send it back as one or two things are annoying me. The question is, if I were to buy an Asus Router (say 68U) tomorrow, and updated to the latest official (or Merlin - I...

    D-Link AC3200

Looks like the DIR-895 and 885 would be the ones to go for but I think they're coming out later...

Any chance of a DAP-2695 review?

I've been using a DAP-2553 for 4 years now and really like its features and reliability, but now I want AC around the house. Any chance of reviewing the D-Link DAP-2695 (Linky) to see how it fares against the other AC units out there? I have a dedicated pfsense firewall, separate switch...
