    Thx! If course there is no objective and ultimate answer. A short speed comparison between stock and tomato firmware would be great but I think this will be my job. I will post some results if I have enough time!

    thx very much for the hint. I will give it a try. Actually I intended to use the vendors firmware with official support... had a problem with DDWRT on my old Netgear unit which stopped RADIUS support and I do not want any surprises... :(
