    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Great to see new builds and activity of this awesome firmware. Is there a build somewhere for the B1 variant?

Help - N56U wired devices unreachable

Glad to hear it - Padavan & team do it again!

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

You could raise an issue with Padavan - likely it just requires some missing configuration in the build to support the leds as well (fwiw, I tend to turn them off anyway).

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Padavan can definitely help. Checkout its extensive wiki which has a LOT of interesting bits: https://bitbucket.org/padavan/rt-n56u/wiki/EN/CommonTips If you just want a wireless bridge, BASE is the way to go. Download it (or get the latest snapshot - which you can find in the wiki or with a...

Help - N56U wired devices unreachable

Maybe a RGMII port died - if the router is still in warranty take it back, otherwise something like this might help: https://bitbucket.org/padavan/rt-n56u/issues/769/rt-n56u-ap-mode-doesnt-seem-to-pass

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

A bit of topic but any ideas on whether Asus is retiring N56U and if so, what would be its replacement? I recommended the router to some friends looking for an upgrade but lo and behold, it's out of stock in most shops (Eastern Europe) we looked at. Is there another version in the works, some...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Cheers. Since you already have an AC router (though arguably not top of the line) is there any difference in terms of range or speed that you might have picked up? Anything that stands out when you transfer files or the like?

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

@gingerbeardman What's the performance of the AC in B1 (for example compared to the AC-51U)? Is there by any chance a settings menu for it? Any screenshots that you can share? Thanks,

    New hEX

I'm asking since ER-X, hEXr3 and RT-N56U-B1 have the same SoC (the first with the dual core version, the third it's single core) yet the B1 has no issues with Gigabit over PPPoE as it delegates a lot of the work to the hardware. In fact even the older N56U (5 years older SoC, only 500Mhz) can...

    New hEX

Any idea what's the WAN/LAN performance with PPPoE? I keep wondering why these companies are not reaching out to folks like Padavan - his firmware (for MediaTek SoCs) not only has a pretty spiffy GUI but it also rocks in terms of performance.

    ER-X: small is beautiful

Thanks guys for this awesome thread. I'm looking for a wired-only (don't need the wi-fi since I have APs for that) router that can handle PPPoE gigabit to deploy across multiple sites and be cost effective (residential customers). Padavan and MediaTek SoC are front-runners and looking at the...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

@ryzhov_al Is there any chance in supporting other routers besides Asus? I just saw the templates for Zyxel (which unfortunately) are not available outside RU. I'm asking since MT7621 is starting to appear in other models, including wired-only routers, such as Ubiquity EdgeRouter X and...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Do the typical restore - unplug it for 30 seconds, restore defaults, see whether it works nicely. The panics typically indicate hardware malfunction such as memory going bad. It might also be due to the plug - I've had 2 routers that went dead only to discover it was the plug that had a...

asus router for wired 1 Gbps PPPoE

@RMerlin thanks (I meant asuswrt-merlin :) ) @cosmoxl not sure where you're based, but while internet is cheap here, the gigabit tends to apply locally (as in within the country so called metropolitan) - the moment you get out, things are completely different. And also, a lot of other things are...

asus router for wired 1 Gbps PPPoE

Here it's optic fiber as well however for some reason, the ISP still wants PPPoE - why encapsulate the frames? I think it's mainly 'legacy' plus authentication (user/pass). I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet, get a router, install the firmware, customize it and see whether hw offload is...
