Still having the 5G issue.
Have you tried 378.52_alpha3? My 5GHz band has been fine but It has also never been an issue for me. In fact, the 2.4GHz band has been much more problematic for me than the 5GHz band.

So I gave DD-WRT version r26446 a 4 day trial and it kept dropping the 2.4GHz band altogether after 18-24 hours of uptime. I tried a daily reboot at 5:30am, a nice feature Brainslayer has built into DD-WRT's GUI, in order to see wther or not a fresh boot each day would resolve this issue (it had absolutely no effect AFAICT). The only way I could "regain" the 2.4GHz band was to do a factory reset and MANUALLY reenter all of my configuration settings (no fun son).

Upon the 2.4GHz band failing for the 3rd time in as many days I went back to Merlin. While 378.52_alpha3 has been a little wonky from time to time my solution has sorted it out. That is to use the WPS button method to erase the nvram (please search the FAQ and this forum before asking how to do so), put the router into recovery mode and then reflash the router using the Asus firmware recovery utility.

Of course, I did a backup of the router's configuration settings with the fantastic utility that John9527 has been kind enough to make available (we're not worthy). This way, after reflashing the router, a few keystrokes restores your settings with the exception of any closed-source stuff. So you still have to manually reenter those settings but that is a piece of cake as compared to having to manually reenter all of your settings as we had to do before the wonderful nvram save & restore utility from John9527.

You using it? hows wifi?

I think I may go back , I had one hell of a time this morning with ios and wifi in the one I posted above.
I also purchased a NAS today (on sale amazon) I am tired of the stutter from movie playback thru the router.

EDIT: I just switched back, trying dd-wrt now, wifi on the other merlin alfa 3 just went to sh!!.
Most likely due to the reboot of the router I did last night that so far not any firmware has passed with this router.

I am about to flash, how is it? DDRT always seems faster than the Stock firmware.
Give me your thoughts. Also if I am not mistaken you can control the signal strength
with DDWRT where in Stock firmware it is locked at 80 max.

Yes you are write , dd-wrt does have lots of control and does work well.
Yes you can control the signal.
Time will tell

The one post on this new version reminded me of your situation:

"Working really well as a client bridge for me thus far. Streaming music from my NAS and browsing with no issues."

Actually, I am going to stay with 378.52_alpha3 for a while. it has been remarkably steady for me thus far. DD-WRT is a wonderful firmware but if it ain't broke (and it is not broke right now) don't fix it, right?

Edit: Okay I lied. I went up to Asus 378_4839 and all seems well, so far.

Can you put feedback on issues you had on the PS4 Lag thread, or the alpha3 thread so that others can see ? I havent had any wifi issues at all on the alpha3

Cheers

Tried the latest DDWRT release. The usual lightning fast page reloads. After an hour the router crashed. Rebooted. Then lost 5 ghz signal after about a half hour. The HD connected to USB did not show in the network. Seems that the 2446 release was the best so far.

Now flashed the RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_4839 latest beta Stock from Asus. Running perfectly. USB wireless file transfers are lightening fast. Very impressed.

Hmm , I don't seem to have any problem with the latest dd-wrt, that is strange..... (I'll test more tonight)
You did reset and clear nvram?

I am getting a NAS to get my usb off the router (I am not happy about spending what I did, this router for the price should work perfectly, but obviously has flawy.

OH, thats why, I am on 1-31-2015 version, maybe the one of 4-1-2015 is an April fools joke??
that would explain why the problems?

EDIT : 3-31-2015 not the one above.

Tonight I had problems with dd-wrt and wifi on my iPhone 6+.
yes same as yesterday with alfa3
So I pulled power to the router for over 5 minutes also cable modem , why not .. Also to note this is my first power down in a long time.
All is good now after power up
This just goes to show something is screwy with this router, wifi, and reboots. I will go back to the Alfa 3 soon , now that I know it's most likly the router and reboots doing it. I just need to power off for 5+ minutes.

You have to try RT-AC87U_3.0.0.4_378_4839 latest beta Stock from Asus. I think this may be your answer. The wifi signal strength is superb and rock solid. Also is my 2 TB HD streaming as well as Netflix etc...
Defran1 give this a shot first.

This firmware is great. Here are the speedtest results from my Surface Pro 3 surfing wirelessly on my patio about 40 feet from the router (through 3 walls and my fireplace no less). Amazing!

So noob here, but I've done all the settings like they have listed above but I guess I'm not following exactly how to fix the PS4 lag. What did you do?
