Hope it's ok to ask this here.

So I have a huge amount of photos from various sources on my NAS, my phone and my SO's phone are also both synced to dump photos on the NAS when inside the network (Android and iOs phones).

There is no or little organization there and it's different between the multiple sources. I guess most of these photos (there are videos as well) have tags but they might be of different format.

So I was hoping there was some software that could help me organize all this. I would love if it could move all the photos to new file/folder location organized by some parameter, be it date, location or something else. I'm also pretty ok if they stay where they are as long as the software offers some gateway into viewing the photos in any organizational way.

Now the problem is that the photos are stored on a NAS so they might be accessed from any number of computers, meaning the software can't be just a local piece on one computer, unless some sort of metadata is stored beside the picture and all instances of the software would get it's info/settings from there.

I also have a dedicated media PC that could run any kind of "always on" software if that is a solution.

I do not require being able to edit the photos through the software.

I've heard some things about Picasa but every piece I read about it focuses on features that I'm not really looking into like online publishing, editing and such things, Picasa would also be required to store metadata things ont he NAS somehow.

If there is a solution si I can also view my photos through KODI in a organized manner, start a slideshow only from certain dates, including a certain person etc. that would be a plus.

Hi,
When you mention NAS, Synology NAS has photo station. Some thing like photo station won't do it for you?
What is your NAS, doesn't it have some thing like photo station?

Nope, not that I'm aware of. My NAS is the crappy Seagate BlackArmor. I have longterm plans to get me a new one, but can't afford it right now.

You can run Picasa and store the files on a NAS. I've done it for years. Same for any other photo organizing application.

Storing and organizing your photos is a chore m.. period.
There are numerous schemas and IMHbutDAO none of them work "right".

The current "Professional" approach is using the Metadata fields that can be imbedded in JPEGS and TIFFS or attached with file sidecars.

Everything I've looked at, and I make it point to look at everyone I even get a sniff of, reflects the previous conceptions and prejudices of the committee that wrote it and they are all nuts.

Practical advice? Write out a naming schema that you like and reflects the topical nature of the picture(s) incorporate the date, sort by that date and add a text file in the folders with as much info as you can put down and DO IT NOW.
A big chore but you will only get further away from the event you tried to record and the who-what-where-why will only get fuzzier. Good luck.
