Are there any high performance wireless routers with a reliable built-in repeater mode? I'd like to buy a pair, one used as the main wireless router connected to the modem, and the other as a repeater. Or are the dedicated repeaters a better option?

I understand the downsides of wireless repeating so this thread doesn't need to discuss the benefits of back hauling with wired solutions.

You may want to tell more about what your trying to do. That way you may find some answers you have not thought of to help in your situation. One example would be to "back haul" with a wireless solution. Anyway which frequencies and type are you trying to repeat? There are some manufacturers that make repeaters with dual radios so you do not suffer the problems you see with wireless repeating on a single radio.

I'm connecting two buildings. The good news is I found a way to avoid the need for a repeater. Now I've just got 50 feet of open space and a couple of walls between the main wireless router and a wireless bridge. I was told a pair of R8000's works well for that.

Edit - looking a the manual and Netgear support site I don't think the R8000 has a bridge mode yet. Oh well...

For connecting two buildings, you just need a bridge on the other end, not a repeater.

Why do you need R8000's? A pair of R7000's would work just fine (they support wireless bridge).

The unit in the first building will also serve as a wireless router for that area and the R8000 looks like a very capable unit. The unit in the second building will be in bridge mode.
