OpenWRT for Linksys WRT1900AC

The community can then improve and difficulties which is related to wireless problems...so, i think i'll get a lot from this forum...

Could the proud developers please point me at the right firmware image to download for a WRT1900ACv1? There's a whole bunch under mvebu. If that's even the right place? Or is there a Readme somewhere that explains what the different images are?

IIRC - I believe Mamba is the one for the WRT1900acV1

Code name for the WRT1900AC is Mamba.

That's for V1, thought V2 had a different board name...

The *.tar files are used with the OpenWRT sysupgrade utility and the *.img files are the full firmware binary files for Web UI or TFTP upload.

Careful which firmware image (*.img) file you choose:

• WRT1900AC V1 "Mamba"
• WRT1900AC V2 "Cobra"
• WRT1200AC "Caiman"

Oh yeah, from looking at the WRT1900AC secret status page for the stock firmware, mamba is all over the place in the logs, etc. Should have remembered that *smile*.

Been using this firmware (Chaos Calmer final) for a few hours now, seems stable enough and performs well enough to continue using it for a while. IPv6 just worked, that's a first *smile*. Just a couple of things that I miss, though:

1. Don't see "last 24 hours" traffic graphs. The real time traffic graphs are real pretty, but I like to get a more panoramic view of the recent past *smile*.

2. Client hostnames are missing in several places in the status. DHCP6 lists only a couple of hostnames out of the 4 that I have. I can figure out the client names by the MAC address on the end of the DUID, but that's a stretch. In the "Associated Stations" that tells you which clients are on which bands, only MAC addresses, no hostnames at all.

I do like that you can flash back to stock firmware, assuming that you have it in the other boot partition...I've learned to leave stock firmware in boot partition 1 as a matter of practice, from less stable times. And you can use the:


thing to switch back to stock firmware if you can ssh into the router at the time you want to switch, and you've got stock firmware in boot partition 1, and you're using boot partition 2. There's also a "fw_printenv boot_part" command to verify what boot partition you're currently using.

The main thing is that this firmware version seems stable at this point (up 8+ hours, some time of which I was sleeping, but others weren't) and is performing well, so I'll be using it as long as that continues, or until there's a new version that I want to try *smile*.

I do have a couple of questions, does the "save configuration" and "restore configuration" functionality work in this version? I've saved my working configuration in case I need it, but don't want to use that unless it works right. This can save work if it is fully functional, though. Also, does the "reset" button work to go back to factory defaults?

Update: Changed "Log output level" to "Error", and "Cron Log Level" to "Warning". Still getting dnsmasq "info"-level and "notice"-level messages in the log. I have not rebooted since changing these levels, is that the problem?

And this firmware doesn't seem to be sympatico with my Apple mobile devices. None of my usual tricks have helped with this one. They're much slower than they should be, and much slower than they are with other routers and firmware. Reflashed, and the second time around, they were not even able to join my wifi network at all. Which just doesn't work for me.

This has turned out longer than I expected, sorry about that. I'm done now *smile*.
