Hi,

I use OpenVPN client services on the router.

I tried using DNS-O-Matic to update my IP address and it cancels with an error "Request Error! Please try again."

On opening DNS-O-Matic to see what's the problem i see the following error message under history "
Errors requiring your attention
The IP Address you have supplied to DNS-O-Matic
differs from the IP Address that you are coming from.
OpenDNS does not allow you to update to an IP Address
that you don't actually own."

Any suggestions on what to do?

I had this same problem...

What's happening is that when the VPN "Redirect Internet traffic: All Traffic" is selected the DNS update script is using the IP address of your VPN.

So, under the VPN options, change to "Redirect Internet traffic: Policy Rules" and select each device individually that you want to connect to the VPN.

Kudos to Merlin for giving us these VPN rules!

Ah ok! But that would beat the purpose of redirecting all internet traffic.

I would have tried your trick, but i went for another method. I asked for an IP address from my vpn provider and supplied that IP to OpenDNS. Since i don't use it for torrents, the ip address method is fine - i guess?

Interesting, that works too but I needed it done for a little different reason. What I wanted to do was access the router directly (outside of the VPN tunnel) so I needed to know what the dynamic IP address always is.

One purpose was to make sure the VPN was actually running when I was away from the router.

Hi,

I am revisiting the old thread again, as I need DNSOMATIC to work and i am still stuck with the "Request Error! Please try again." error.

According to your suggestion, I have set the below settings in policy routing, but this is not helping. Any tips on how did you configure DNSOMATIC to work?

Code:
Router 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 WAN
Home-Lan 192.168.1.0/24 0.0.0.0 VPN

Deleting Router or keeping it there doesn't help either.

Well, it is finally updating DNSOMATIC now.

However it is updating my Router's IP instead of the IP received from my OpenVPN connection.

I know this is an impossible ask without perhaps toying with scripting (that is out of my scope). Is there a way to update DNSOMATIC with my OpenVPN Client IP instead of my ISP assigned IP?

I am passing all the traffic through the VPN, bypassing the ISP.

Hi, any thoughts on this?
