Hi I have a private internet access membership, and a Netgear R7000 router. I was wondering if its possible to set up my PIA VPN so only certain IPs are routed through the VPN?

Thanks in advance

unfortunately i only know how to do this on a non consumer router. Im not even sure if this is possible on consumer routers.

Both Asuswrt-Merlin and Shibby Tomato can do this over the webui. Any other router would require a custom firmware that lets you modify the RPDB through scripting.

Tomato on the R7000 is highly experimental tho, so you might encounter issues with it at this time.

Is your firmware available for Nighthawk routers?

If not, does DDWRT/Kong support this?

Not from me, I only support Asus models.

I doubt DD-WRT has selective routing, its OpenVPN support is fairly basic compared to Tomato or Asuswrt. You could however do it manually by manipulating Linux's RPDB.

Thanks. It appears your firmware is available for the R7000 but its not officially supported by you. I might try it out it seems to work pretty well.

And the selective routing seems to work fine then on the R7000. I only tested for 10 min earlier though.

I've successfully flashed my Netgear R7000 with Advanced Tomato, Release date: 19.06.2015, and Version: 2.8-130.

Use this link and follow instructions:

So far I've set up my router to selectively route based on IP using info provided here. For your VPN server if you don't use HMA, you may need to alter depending on security keys etc, but this should get you started.

I'm trying to sort out the next step which appears to be possible for selective routing based on domain name by configuring the 'OpenVPN Client Configuration - Redirect Through VPN. See image in this link:

http://www.flashrouters.com/blog/2015/05/27/netgear-r7000-nghthawk-tomat...

What I'm not clear on is what other settings and scripts need to be in place for this to work and what changes I need to make from the IP based selective routing approach.

My intent is to only route certain domain name requests through the VPN server where the rest of my traffic to go via my normal ISP routing.

For now I know your intensions work well on my setup.
