So noob here, but I've done all the settings like they have listed above but I guess I'm not following exactly how to fix the PS4 lag. What did you do?

Hi, I use the latest asus official version now, but in dd-wrt just enable UPnP EDIT: also use the DNS settings in your PS4 below.

BUT if you want to try the latest asus version here are my settings for lag free PS4

Thanks to dsring for a lot of great info.

WIFI page
-enable IGMP Snooping on 5GHz
-Short Preamble, DTIM Interval @ 1, and Beacon Interval @ 100 on both wireless bands
-Beam Forming is off, both bands

LAN page
- IPTV tab, and enable both IGMP Proxy and IGMP Snooping, and set the DHCP Routes to RFC3442 & Microsoft
- Switch Control Page - Enable Jumbo Frames

WAN Page
- OpenDNS Family DNS servers (Put this in the PS4) (208.67.222.123 & 208.67.220.123)

NAT Passthrough page
- All options are Enabled

thats it for no more PS4 lag. I had a couple glitches with wifi but nothing to complain about. on asus 4950 firmware

Let me know how goes.

Thank you for your help. I will try this now. I'm using the latest DD-WRT (April 1) and have issues with 5ghz. I am thinking about going back to Asus official. They just came out with a new update 5134 (April 23) so I'll probably try that If DD-WRT is still giving me grief.

If you do go with the new let me know, I'm skeptical now that this is working for me, but it could use a little better wifi, that may be better in the new. Let me know?
Thank you!!

So I gave up on DD-WRT for now and went back to stock. on stock checked all settings you recommend, but still getting the Nat-2 lag on ps4. Do you do anything special with the basic wifi settings (i.e. optimize for xbox, etc.) or do you leave them alone and only change what you suggested in professional tab?

NAT 2 is normal from the ps4 menu
But open NAT should be within codaw
Is that what you are getting ??
Only those settings I change

Make sure you input those DNS settings in your ps4 tho they do work if you put them in your router also

Ok, yeah I hangs up when discovering nat type and then finally says Nat-2. I saw a youtube video that said that was wrong and then the guy posted a youtube video of the nat showing up immediately after enabling upnp. I did everything marked in your instructions and it still would hang up. I just tried a PS Now game that I was getting lag on yesterday and it works great so I think i'm good even though when I go to test connection it has that delay. I'll keep it this way for a while.

My bigger fish to fry now is 5Ghz is not giving me a very consistent connection like it used to. I don't know if it has to do with switching between stock, DD-WRT, and Merlin but 5Ghz is intermittent. The signal stays on and the connection stays connected, but when I go to speed test sites, my 40Mbps connection get's about 8-19 Mbps. I switch to 2.4Ghz and it's fast. I made sure I telnet'ed into the router prior to loading this last firmware and erased nvram prior to switching. Not sure that's even anything to do with the 5ghz issue I'm having. All my other devices in my house connect 2.4 except for my MBP retina which I like to keep in the 5Ghz.

I think I'm done tinkering for the day but thank you for your help!

That was my problem, I get about 3-4 seconds now in that test with those settings .
Try tomorrow , it may be your ISP.
Did you press the reset button until the power light flashes then configure from scratch? If not try that , also try the version I am using .

I know your pain , but glad you may be seeing better results .

Keep me updated
Best of luck

Ok so I've been running stock 5134 for a few days. I did end up doing one more reset using the reset button like you said and then reloaded. I have mixed results...

Browsing is hanging my PC's. Also, I can't get past 20Mbps on 5Ghz or 29Mbps on 2.4Ghz on speed tests. When I bought this router I'd get around 37Mbps on my 40Mbps connection. I still get those speeds with wired but I don't use wired. I keep the router in the dead center of my house on top of a bookshelf to give the most centered coverage.

While this is the case, I actually have been streaming video better and also have less lag on Ps4. I don't have any Qos settings, but I guess I'm good. Streaming video and Game streaming via PsNow is my main thing I'm doing now. that seems fine.

The short time I got to experience DD-WRT was actually great but too buggy for me to deal with on a regular basis. I'm going to keep my eyes on the builds and changelogs and maybe go back if they can get it more stable.

Do you need to have DD-WRT on your Asus router to try this on the ps4?? I have the AC87R and am running the newiest FW that ASUS has released, so just wondering if I could try this on my ps4??

Thanks.

As of now I only use ASUS firmware (latest one on their web page)

All settings can be used in asus or dd-wrt firmware, hope this helps.

Well tried this and man I am lagging like crazy??? It did not seem to work at all.

You most likely do not need these settings as the servers are close to you and your internet is much better than what we get on the east coast (tho some are lucky to get get fios as that is a pipe dream for my town).

I just installed it and it's working a bit better than the build that is listed on the first page of this thread.

The red LED is now off and the 2.4GHZ LED is still not working.

5Ghz seems stable so far. As of this morning I've got 12 hours on it so we will see

Is 5 GHZ stable?

CC

I've got 12 hours on that release and the 5GHZ is stable. Speeds are quite variable in the same spot, but I haven't dropped yet

Apparently there is an even newer still release out. I don't know if I'll try that one or not
