New Around Here
Hi all,

I'm getting this message over and over in the log:

miniupnpd[743]: Failed to convert hostname '::' to ip address

Also getting:

miniupnpd[743]: sendto(udp): Operation not permitted

...but this one is caused by Plex apparently. Turning Plex off makes it disappear, but the first error is still there.

I'm running stock firmware version 378.4585 on a new AC68U (with PPPOE for FTTH with Bell Canada) which otherwise is working well (except that I have to turn NAT Acceleration off or else my voip ATA won't connect).

Any ideas why? Rebooting makes no difference.

Thanks.

Try latest Merlin FW.

Yes indeed, I'm strongly considering Merlin's FW, just wondered if anyone had more specific advice on this particular issue before going that route.

I don't see why use Stock FW when all and alot more is on Merlin FW.

Test and see if same happens, miniupnpd was recently updated on RMerlin FW, give it a try.

Ok, I think I solved it.

I flashed to Merlin 378.54_2 but was still getting the error, although a slightly different one:

miniupnpd[811]: Failed to convert hostname '::' to ip address

Notice the [811] instead of [743].

I decided to disable my Bitvise SSH server and sure enough the error went away. Then I decided to uncheck the 'Automatically configure router (requires UPnP)" option in Bitvise and restarted it. No more errors. ...So the router didn't agree with how Bitvise was setting up port forwards for external access. Thankfully I don't need external access (or I can try setting up manual port forwards if I need it later).

The error caused by Plex is gone also (due to Merlin).

All said and done I have no more errors and now running Merlin. Sweet. :)
