This is my third N66U router... I am still suffering from 2.4 GHz outtages after a few days of operation. I have read all the threads, I have invested in external WiFi amplifiers and extended range antennas... Everything I can to help assist this router in achieving the glory I was told it had.

I am now looking to downgrade from the latest drivers (stock/Merlin/John's Fork) to SDK5...

They are proving to be quite elusive to find.

My understanding the last/best versions of these drivers are:
merlin 3.0.0.4.374.35_4-sdk5
stock 3.0.0.4.271

Does anyone have a copy of these they can share (or PM if not allowed publically)?

I found one on a third party hosting site, I'd rather get it from here if allowed.

Maybe it just isn't going to work for you. It happens. Why not try another router?

Good question... Honestly, I have returned the router before - but I am questioning the other similar products avalable. T-Link, Netgear, Linksys, etc... All the routers in a similar price range have similar problems. It is very strange. Some users report fantastic results while others report similar stories of 2.4 GHz dropping or the range not living up to the advertised rate and numerous other things.

I now know this router pretty well and I figured why not give this one more try with the legacy drivers?

If this doesn't work - then yes, indeed I will be trying something else.

Got it.

Success depends a lot of client mix and RF and Wi-Fi environment.

Those old firmwares have a LOT of known security holes by now. I would strongly advise NOT to use any of these.

You could always try Tomato - they are still using SDK5.100 if I remember correctly.

Thank you Merlin, I was actually considering Tomato - bit more tricky of an install and should they not workout, bit more tricky to come back to ASUS base firmware. But that's good to know - Tomato = SDK5.100

I will relook at the install steps for Tomato and give it a go.

Thanks again for this and all your other hard work with this and other routers.

Asus routers should be fairly easy to flash with Tomato. Worst case scenario, you can flash it from Recovery mode. There's a chance you could flash it directly as a regular Asus firmware however - just remember to do a factory default reset afterward.

It's certainly simpler than OpenWRT or DD-WRT. I can't give you exact instructions as I've never flashed any Asus router with Tomato (only Linksys devices).

Have you tried 52-2? I was once a firm 35-4 user because it was super stable. The security holes didn't affect me because I didn't use the features that were bugged. Then I switched to 52-2, and it has also been super stable on both bands.
