You can run the second stage form the pc too but you would need to install a package that emulates. I think it was called qemu.

couldnt set up?

Hello,
i have rt-ac68u
one hdd formatted ext3
one flash formatted ext2
one webcam compatible for this work (its name is written in the list ok)
my actual fw is merlin 374.43_2 (it work great for every works till today)
i wanna setup mjpg streamer for my webcam to watch my pet out of home.

i tried everything about mjpg-streamer entware guide of TeHashX. Everytime i got same or similar errors like;
-sh not found such file etc..
and lastly he warned me about rt-ac68u (arm machine), i have learned that it is not possible to setup mjpg-streamer entware on my router.
he mentioned about your way, debian.
i've read your guide and tried once, but it didnt work. ive got error after downloading debian packages when i wrote mount -o bind /dev/ <folder>/debian/dev/
mount -o bind /proc/ <folder>/debian/proc/
mount -o bind /sys/ <folder>/debian/sys/

it says failed: no such file or directory.

please could you write me the guide step by step and what is them mistake about me?

note: i have tried both download master set up and after removed)

I managed to install mjpg-streamer from chrooted debian mipsel version, I think should work on arm too but dunno about modules.

...then something in your command is missing ... i.e. the path to the executable is the most likely case here.

..you have to replace the "<folder>" part with the path to where you installed debian on your external disk...most likely "/dev/sda1" or similar.

If you are not familiar with some basic linux CLI management, this will be a major hurdle, I am afraid.

Temporary failure resolving 'ftp.us.debian.org'

I've succesfully installed chroot, however running apt-get update gets trows an error Temporary failure resolving 'ftp.us.debian.org'. First i thought it would be that ftp.us.debian.org was down, however 3 days later I still get this error.
Anyone got a pointer?

Can you try this version? Is based on the same chroot build but is debian wheezy, thanx @ryzhov_al

Thanks for your reply. I already tried that one while googling.
Got the same error. Must be something at my side i guess. Only difference with the guide is that i run entware, not optware. Must be no problem I guess.
See below for the error.

Code:

@ryzhov_al Any idea how to install (update) libc6 with this old kernel 2.6.22.19?
Code:

please add lenny sources to your /etc/apt/sources.list and run:
  apt-get install -t lenny linux-image-2.6

If I stop update with apt-mark hold, I still get errors when trying to install libcurl3:
root@RT-AC66U:/# apt-mark hold libc6
libc6 set on hold.
root@RT-AC66U:/# apt-get install libc6

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libcurl3 : Depends: libc6 (>= 2.17) but 2.13-38+deb7u6-mipsel is to be installed
Depends: librtmp1 (>= 2.4+20131018.git79459a2-3~) but it is not installable
Recommends: ca-certificates but it is not going to be installed

I think I found a workaround, namely, you can use the unsupported but still-functional mirror "http://emdebian.bytesatwork.ch/mirror/grip" for Emdebian (http://www.emdebian.org/grip/). Just change the mirror URL and "stable" to "squeeze" in prepare.sh, and everything else should work as planned.

Make sure you apply the supplied patch for /debootstrap/functions and run /debootstrap/debootstrap --second-stage (from the router) after chroot'ing for the first time.

Slow going..but I think mine is going to work.

Which version will install, squeeze? What about libc?

Yes, squeeze. It's old enough that it seems to work. Note of course that you won't be getting any security updates...

I also had to remove "dash" from /debootstrap/required and then install the package manually after running debootstrap --second-stage; it has some conflict with bash in Emdebian. Will try to post a full set of install steps when I have a free moment.

I have question, I cant find any news/topic to install Debian on asus merlin routers since about 2016 and all links/downloads are dead. Does it make sense to install debian on a router to run Plexi Media Server?

Hi,
you can follow the following tutorials:
It works very well.

I personally debootstrapped an aarch64 (ARM64) debian version for my RT-AX86U, it is running logitechmediaserver / squeezebox server very smoothly!

Hello! I successfully used the instructions mentioned above in the past (at htq.ro). Today I needed to reinstall debian but the links are dead. Is there any other way to get debian up and running on my router (AC86U)?

Thanks!
