My TR-AC68U crashes about every one to two days. What I mean is that it stops DHCPing and DNSing, leaving the hosts on the network high and dry. The CPU temperature sea

ms somewhat high at 89 deg C. I managed to catch some of these events on a separate Syslog server (see attached). They follow a similar pattern. Within a few logs, the date also shifts to Dec 31 until the next ntp call. I can restore the system by unplugging the power for 10 seconds. But it is a nuisance. Has anybody else met with this problem?

If owned that router, I would give it some air! (Try a fan).. The change in date looks like a restart(?)

Couple of things...

1) As suggested, maybe it's overheating... so give it some free space (lego's work well here :) )

2) Since you have the QNAP NAS box, have you considered using it for DNS/DHCP and disabling the DHCP on the RT-AC68U?

i have that AP and it never crashes, totally stable 24/7 overclocked to 1.4Ghz running RMerlin firmware with a laptop cooler taped to its back.

Check the temperature. CPU should be below 80C, wifi chips 50 and below.
Downclock the ram from 800mhz to 667mhz.
Check the PSU.

Hi,

Temperatures like this ones
Code:
Temperatures 2.4 GHz: 54°C - 5 GHz: 56°C - CPU: 85°C
are pretty normal and the 68U router runs perfectly stable in my case with them!

No further cooling needed!

I have overclocked the router to 1200 MHz and run Transmission on it with high CPU load and still no problems.

My suggestion would be to do a factory reset and start with a minimal configuration (no USB devices or cloud stuff) and to see if this works. Than to start adding features to see what breaks the router stability. ;)

With kind regards
Joe

Thank you for all the good advice. I will start with removing the the USB memory. If that doesn't help, I might go the the DNS/DHCP transplant route. I would prefer not to, because I now power down QNAP at night. The other fact, I haven't mentioned, I run Merlin. I have to, because of a poorly designed Samsung retarded TV.
