My temperatures are: 2.4 GHz: 51°C - 5 GHz: 55°C - CPU: 84°C
o'cloccked to 1Ghz... Do you think I have to check heasink inside? :)

1ghz is default for 87u, so you not have overclocked device.

He is talking about RT-AC68U, not RT-AC87U. :)

Sorry guys I need help :(
I have pretty much the same problem with you, I bought RT AC87U and both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz channels worked fine for 1 day. Then I start messing up with the LED/WiFi buttons. I did'nt know what I ve done but right now my 5 Ghz band stopped working, even when I press Wifi button. 2.4 Ghz band just work perfectly. I tried factory reset, Merlin firmware, NVRam ... Nothing worked :( Merlin firmware say 5Ghz band disabled, didnt even show 5 Ghz chipset temperature... I guess there is something wrong when Asus WRT connect Quantenna OS to turn 5Ghz on when I messing up with the buttons :(
Really hope u guys help me, Im so frustrated right now :(

No way to solve it, thats EXACTLY the same issue i had, and it has nothing to due with you "messing with LED/Wifi buttons", that was just a real coincidence, you couldn't avoid it at all.

Your router QTN chip is not initicializing anymore, maybe you haven't noticed but your LAN1 port is also not working.

RMA is the only way, and pray for not happening once again with the NEW one/replacement, i have seen this happening on several users on my country even after RMA. :(

"Welcome" to the club. :(

You are welcome.

@ hggomes, funny enough i had this same issue last week with a rt-ac77u. In my case I had modified an US cfe and flashed it,once i re-flashed my original cfe backup all went back to normal so far.

My CFE was the original one / not touched so i cannot tell about it.

What have you modified on it? What issue you are refeering to? 5GHZ band not working (showing as DISABLED)? LAN1? Both?

Maybe you have corrupted some value on the 5GHZ band.

The Quantenna OS does not boot for some reason, no way to login to the OS, and nothing related with Quantenna FW (qcsapi) works.

This seems a obvious Quantenna HW failure to me, i could see what was going on easily via serial console, but i will not since is still on warranty period.

On AC87U/R when the 5GHZ radio was disabled the temperature status was still there, the Quantenna system was never "offline", and now the status page shows it as DISABLED.

Not sure if this is a HW failure, or that the QTN firmware/boot configs have gotten corrupted - it may be sitting in the bootloader waiting for interaction on the shell/monitor...

The issue i was referring to was , unable to see all setting on the 5GHz wireless settings.

I use cfedit to change the following values in the US cfe:

Ccode to #a

Changed macs and secret code accordingly.

Changed maxp2ga 0, 1 ,2 from 106 to 120.

Problems:
1- the 5GHz wireless setting page displayed the same problem as you posted, I erase nvram twice to make sure.
2- I was able to see the 5GHz on the clients but could not get an ip address.

As for lan1 I could not tell you anything as I never use that port or tested.

Background:

I noticed that most of my devices apart from my Samsung phones could not connect/find the the 5GHz Ssid on 80MHz band, the only band/channel I could use in all devices was channel 40 on 80MHz .

The router only displays the following channels: 36,40,44,48,52,56,60,64,100,104.108,112.

I also used an edited original cfe (ccode changed to #a) but once I flashed the only control channel option was 0.

The only way to get all channels is with you firmware as far as I can see now, unfortunately your latest breaks my vpn server (authentication error)

I looks like I going to need to bring the rt-ac66u out of the box.

Ps, this router becomes sluggish has crashed several times when my laptop cooler is off.

Thats a complete different scenario, nothing related with this problem.

Broadcom codes are not accepted on QTN SDK, thats why you have see that happening on your wireless page, you haven't seen for sure DISABLED on the 5GHZ info, otherwise you couldn't recover it.

PS: No issues with OpenVPN, rock solid, probably you have a cert problem.

Like i mention before i didnt want to connect the serial cable because of warranty, but if they got corrupted like you said its even a worse scenario, i have seen this exact situation happening on untouched CFE with stock ASUS FW, so...

5GHZ LED turned off, LAN1 not working, 5GHZ status DISABLED (this one was confirmed after flashing RMerlin FW)

Yeah, I've not been the biggest fan of QTN... but I'm curious, perhaps to the benefit of others, that this is something that Asus can investigate... the AC87U is an odd architecture..

What temperatures are you getting?

the AC87U is an odd architecture..

You can say that, im pretty sure we will not see it soon on any ASUS routers, at least until they release the next generation QTN wireless chip 10GBIT, i wish them better luck next time. :)

So far RT-AC87U was the only model i didnt opened the case, if it wasnt because of warranty i surely would find the motive for this happening, but TBH im not conviced that will not happen again so, maybe when it happens next time it will be out of warranty and then i can hook TTL on it to find out. :)

On a different forum (Hardware zone) you spoke about the ASUS RT-AC87U QTN GPL. I think you stated you updated it from Netgear. How did you do it and did it help?

Sorry the delay answering, alot going on lately, yes Netgear QTN GPL version is a recent version than ASUS, its v37.3.1.25.

It works fine but there's some issues with the WEBUI information retrieve on the image, but its fixable.

I still expect ASUS uploads it "one day" to the product page, but i dont really believe it will ever happen and the reason its obvious after looking at the Netgear GPL.

I simply added some code missing, no big changes.

That's quite older. Asus is up to .50 by now.
