New Around Here
Hi all

I have just set up a new DS215J. I would like DS Photo and DS Cloud only to be Internet facing for syncing purposes.

What is the best way to secure these ?

user accounts and passwords. Deny access.
Overkill, but you can spend $15 and get a digital certificate and enable/require SSL HTTPS access. This just encrypts for transmission after access is granted.

Don't put it on the public internet at large - as SteveCH suggests, user accounts/passwords, and an SSL cert, and then you might port forward those specific services - don't put it in the DMZ or public IP.

If your remote access need is frequent, setup strong passwords. And maybe use SSL.
Beware strong password on admin. essential.
Beware opening port SSH on your router to forward to NAS. Expect 10 attempts per hour to guess a password.

If infrequent, manually open the router port ONLY when access is needed.

I agree with everyone above. I would like to add if the OP needs SSH access then change the default port of 22 to something other, This will put an end to the 10 or more attempts per hour to guess the password, You can do this by going to Control Panel->Terminal & SNMP, I would also suggest setting Auto Block you can set this by going to Control Panel->Security
