I agree it is misleading. That's why SNB has published multiple articles explaining the convention and what real link rates to expect. But for better or worse, the system serves a useful purpose to class wireless routers and APs.

What would be great is for the vendors to bring out more client adapters that can really utilize the capabilities of the AC1900+ class Router/AP's...

I wouldn't presume to speak for the majority, but I'd really jump at a client adapter that is affordable, stable, and performs well at these higher rates and features - there's a couple of options now, but the Windows 10 launch has made things there a bit interesting...

Would be nice to see more 3x3 solutions in notebooks / laptops. But with declining desktop sales, the market isn't big enough to be interesting for USB dongles.

There are adapters available with ac 1750 and ac 1900 but not usb capable as its limitation are on size. But Asus have usb devices i guess. But more PCI-e adaptors are there from TP link T8E T9E and even asus have one. Not sure if is USB 3.0 capable.

Yep - and the big money in laptops these days are corp/enterprise buyers, and 2*2:2 seem to to be the general rule there - fast enough, good enough, cheap enough...

Starting to see single-stream 11ac dual-band on the very low end (and default choice on the mid-range) laptops - but three stream adapters, even as BTO/CTO, are not very common in the laptop space - Apple is probably an exception as iMacs and MacBook Pro's have typically been 3-stream all along, from N900 to AC1900 times..

You also have the D-Link DWA-192 its a 3x3 Soulution (600/1300) usb3 adapter works on a AC1900 class Router, i have one in Sweden it cost 648 SEK its OK price

It's not very portable. Might as well use an Ethernet connected bridge or router in bridge mode. Longer cable provides better placement options.

Its like a tennisball fitts your jacketpocket ;o), a long cable that you tripp over hmm think am vote for the USB dongle, but i understand how you thinking.

The other thing I would like to see in AC1900 space - adapters with Linux support - many of the Wave1 devices had initial drivers, but due to changes in the Linux kernel, those drivers either broke, or had seriously reduced functionality...

Here's one that's at least USB-based and AC1900-class. Not very portable however, unfortunately...
