New Around Here
Hey All,

I've been having issues with my brand new equipment and my internet service delivered by Comcast, and was wondering if someone could give me some advice.

My equipment is the following:

Modem: ARRIS SURFboard SB6141
Router: ASUS Dual-Band Wireless-N 600 Router (RT-N56U)
Internet Plan: Comcast BLAST rated at up to 150mbs/second

My problem is as follows: the internet will slow down to a STANDSTILL on all devices around once or twice a day on the wireless network (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Furthermore, sometimes when it's particularly bad, I can't get a connection via an ethernet cable to the router OR the modem.

I have no idea if this is an ISP, router, or modem issue. From my experience thus far, it appears to be the modem, but I can't be sure.

What do you guys recommend I do?

You should eliminate the router first. Plug your computer directly to the modem. If your problem doesn't occur, the router may be to blame. If you have another router available, you can also test with that router to rule out the N56U.

If you still experience the same problem, you can reset the modem to factory. Let it power off for 10-15 minutes and boot it back up and allow it to grab configuration from Comcast.

I have the exact same combination and I am encountering the same issues. I am with Time Warner Cable.
When I connect directly to Modem, the connection speed is good. This router was working fine until I upgraded my Modem to SB6141 (DOCSIS 3.0) from the older DOCSIS 2.0 modem.

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated

Thanks

I have recently updated my firmware to Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.376_3879. May be I should try and update this again.
I have NOT done a factory reset.

Do you suggest I do a factory reset first and then upgrade the Firmware version? Please advise.

Thanks

NO.

A factory reset is needed after flashing to a new firmware.

At the least, you should unplug all USB devices, reboot the router and then wait for at least 5 minutes before flashing it though.
