Hi guys

Unfortunately I am having major issues with my Netgear R6300 v1 Router.
The wireless speeds (both 2.4 and 5) are horrible. 2.4 not more than 20mbps and 5G not more than 32mbps.
I used the R6300 as an AP connected to a Ubiquiti ER3 Lite.
Even close to the router (20cm) the speeds are the same so range is not the issue.

I have hard reset it and nothing changed.

Is there anything I could do?

Thanks

PS: if neeeded what other router or AP would you recommend to buy?

I just plugged my R6300 v1 back in, as I haven't used it in a while. My R6300 is plugged into a UBNT PoE5 configured as an AP. I had two wireless laptops and an Andriod phone connected it. Ran DSL speedtests, streaming Netflix, no issues.

Some questions:
Have done any baseline tests wired?
What client(s) are you using? Are your client wifi drivers up to date?
How are you testing your client?
What do you think your throughput should be?
Do you have WMM enabled on the R6300? If you don't, enable it.
Do yo have Q0S enabled? If you do, disable it.
I don't use 2.4ghz, but, have you selected a non-overlapping channel for 2.4ghz?
Have you tried different channels for 5ghz? Have you rebooted when you changed channels on the 6300?

Hi netwrks. Thanks for your reply.
Coming to your questions:

Have done any baseline tests wired?
Not yet, everything that is connected wired is attached to a Netgear Switch which is directly connected to the ERL3. Of course on wire everything is blazing fast :). I get speed-tests of 900+Mbps (fiber optics at home)

What client(s) are you using? Are your client wifi drivers up to date?
I have tried a variety of clients. Macbook Pro, Windows 10 Laptop, Ipad Air 2, Iphone 6, Iphone 5s.
Same issue on all. Weird is that all of them are showing almost the exact same speed results.
Test performed 1m from the router and also in different rooms. No change at all and same speed across the whole apartment.

How are you testing your client?
Just some speed-tests (Speedtest.net) and 1-2 iOS Apps that can speed test.
I also copied some files from my NAS to the laptop over wifi... same shirt :).

What do you think your throughput should be?
Well... I am not expecting Mbps over wifi but Mbps is a little bit less. I would like to see at least Mbps. A year ago when I had only the R6300 as router I could easily hit Mbps on the 5Ghz in the same room.

Do you have WMM enabled on the R6300? If you don't, enable it.
Tried with both on and off. Nothing helped

Yes

Have you tried different channels for GHz? Have you rebooted when you changed channels on the 6300?
Yes

I have even hard reset the router (also using the 30/30/30 method).

Something is weird.... like it hits a wall at Mbps...

If I was in your situation, I would reload the latest firmware on the 6300, and reset to factory one more time, and see if that changes anything. Keep WMM enabled on the router, as the Mac's want that. Keep QoS disabled. From your switch to the 6300, is the port speed 1000mb Full Duplex? Just checking.. What about between the ERL and the NG Switch. Consistently 1000mb Full Duplex?

Yeah, I'll try that.
Ports are ok... no problem there.
I also get an EX7000 from a colleague to check with that one.
Thanks

I had the EX7000 for a few days. Did the job, but not really much to config on it, except for TX setting. But worked well.

Well the R6300 also does not have much options to set when in AP mode and I'm not really looking for something to configure :). All I need is a rock solid and fast AP for my devices (ipads, iphones and from time to time a macbook air).
Everything else in the house is on wire :).

What would be a good AP you could recommend besides EX7000?

I'm a NG fan.. I have 2 7000's running an Xvortex mod. (54_2). I like the hardware, but firmware / GUI presentation, not so much. So, if your colleague is selling the EX7000 may as well buy it, if the price is right.

yeah... I'll see how it works tomorow after I get the EX7000. I could get it maybe for 100$ from him :). He is not using it anyway...

Good news. I flashed the router with a DD-WRT firmware and it's back to normal... 100+mbps speeds on all my devices.
Btw what would be the best 3rd party firmware compatible with R6300 v1?

Later today I will also try the EX7000 my colleague brought me :).

I have never tried 3rd party fw on the 6300. Maybe someone else will chime in. My 6300 is semi-retired!

Well I tested the EX7000 Extender but use it in AP mode.
Whan can I say... blazing fast. My Ipad is getting 600mpbs speeds...
For 80$ I keep it:).

Is it worth flashing it with the Xvortex mod? It's not a router and I will use it only as AP. Will there be any improvements on the performance side?
