New Around Here
Last weekend I flashed over to the V14E1 fork (from Tomato). Setup everything the way I wanted it and everything was working fine.

This morning we had a brief power outage, maybe 20 minutes total. After the router came back up, it was reset to factory settings.

I just finished setting it all back up, and I backed up my config, but is this normal behavior? Any idea what might cause it? Im just worried for in the future if the power goes out again and the router factory resets, if no one is around to reflash the backup, then the network wont work as expected.

Thanks.

Not what I would expect....in fact, I do power fail testing on every release on my AC68, dropping both the modem and router and then restoring power simultaneously. Over the various releases, I've added little bits of code to harden up this recovery. I just did 3 more tests and every one came up fine, and have never experienced losing the settings in all my testing.

What router do you have?

Its an RT-N66U

Ive seen a few other posts on the net about this same issue (they look to be with stock firmware), but no real resolution.

Used to happen to my N66U as well after power outages. The firmware has nothing to do with it, just the spikes on power restoration, it simply erased the NVRAM. After I moved to a new home, the problem went away, so the problem looks to be related to the electrical grid in the area.
Try a surge protector, an automatic voltage regulator or a UPS.

Thanks for the replies.

I normally have everything on a UPS, the batteries went kaput so Im ordering replacements and will put it back in line.

Ive also been noticing other oddities.....like my wireless clients will be connected but randomly get zero throughput for a minute or two. Then it all comes back fine. Ive checked the system logs and didnt see anything coinciding with the times of no throughput. Not sure if this indicates an issue with the router itself or what. I might try a factory reset reboot and take it from there.
