New Around Here
Hi,

A newbie here.

Im looking for the best router / device to load balance 4G and DSL?

Looking at the brands i read Asus is not very stable and I-MO is way out of my price range.

Peplink looks good but dont see much on the forum regarding ease of use and popularity.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Thanx

peplink is very easy to use with good support but pricey. It really depends on your skill level and what you want from it. Both mikrotik, pfsense and ubiquiti offer that feature for less with more performance but putting support and skill level aside when you want to use peplink is when you want to form a VPN link across 2 networks across multiple WAN connections other than that they dont offer more than what the other brands offer except support and ease of use.

If asus is out of your price range than peplink is out of your price range. ASUS and netgear actually are quite stable but not for multi WAN.
peplink gives good support, low skill requirements but pricey.
pfsense, mikrotik and ubiquiti offer more for less price but requires more skill and has less support. Pfsense is actually the easiest of the 3.

The only advantage peplink has that the others dont is in VPN across multiple WANs but it means having a peplink on both ends.

Thanks for the quick response and advice!!

I'm not too concerned about multiwan at this stage.

What Asus Netgear models would you recommend ?

unfortunately none of them because im not convinced they can do multi WAN well on stock which is what you're trying to do. Combining dsl and 4G can be done on a consumer router but they are hardly good for that. You may want to learn some networking skills and try pfsense or if you want embedded than something like ubiquiti or mikrotik. One other option is to get a development board for a router and install something like openwrt or tomato on it. Some firmwares like openwrt are developed on some of these boards so they may be well supported.

Another thing you could do is look for a consumer router that is well supported by openwrt/tomato assuming they can do multiWAN well. I use the term multi WAN because you have more than 1 WAN source. DSL and 4G are both WANs. Both netgear and asus have routers well supported by them.

You know I think maybe the Cisco RV320 might do it. Whether you get a working firmware who knows.
