Netgear EX6150 Range Extender? Does this work like a repeater?
As I understand, repeater and extender are two different things. I was wondering if the EX6150 works as a repeater so I can keep the same SSID throughout with the same password. Thanks

A range extender can also be known as a range repeater, ie., both connect to an existing wireless network. Some may view a repeater as an access point with high gain antennas with the ability to support a building to building deployment several km's apart (as long as line of sight can be achieved).

However, all NETGEAR wireless extender models have the ability to configure the same SSID(s) and passphrase as the existing wireless network.

thanks buddy. that's what i wanted to know. some are giving confusing info that extenders don't work as well as repeater because of ssid name issues.

Might I suggest you look at the Netgear EX6100. The EX6100 is a Range Extender/ Repeater but can also be used as an Access Point which is the preferred way of signal extension. An AP requires a hard wire connect to your network but avoids any of the performance hits all repeaters suffer from. Here is a link to an article I wrote about the Ex7000 and EX6100 which are the only 2 repeaters that can be used as access points in the Netgear product line. Adds greatly to the long term usability of products like these.

I bought an EX6150. Honestly, not too happy with the results. My internet connection is 180Mbps download from comcast. The wireless router is placed on the 2nd floor of my house (outside my room, in an open space where the signal can broadcast through the atrium that accesses the first floor). the Ex6150 is put one room next to the atrium. It's only giving me 100Mbps download connected on 5ghz.
At the same location, if I put an asus n66u (which i regretfully sold), I can hit 170Mbps.. which is close to the max of my internet speed. I considered an AP to broadcast, but running hardwire outside the walls look horrible and I rather not go this route.

What's the make / model of your base router? How was the ASUS configured?
