New Around Here
Hello guys. I have AC-66U and AC87U. Tried to set 87 as a main router and bridge 66 to it. Failed... tried for months no sucess. So recently tried merlin on both of them and still no win. Bridge works for a short time then no internet on 66u. I have decided to buy tplink addon for my satelite reciever and connect it straight to 87u and disconected 66u from my network. My network: 3lan devices (PC,TV,hp printer) and few 2.4, 3 smartphones, 3 laptops, 3 tablets, xbox360, satelite reciever, home theatre. My rounter cant work for more then 24h. I sudenly get "!" on my network icon, cant connect to the router GUI. Im so tired of asus routers, I set my old 3com to my wife's office and didnt have to restart it for 3 years. I need advice guys, I dont even want to send it to asus service, I dont think Im going to sell them because its so unfair, I will throw them to garbage. My question is... Is it worth it to try DD-WRT on it or its a waste of time? Maybe I should go back to stock firmware... any new stable versions out there? If not can you just point me another model of diferent manufacturer to replace my junk?

Best Regards.

I forgot, I have fiber 300mbit up/300mbit down internet connection.

I am having similar issues with my AC87U. I loaded Merlin's latest with a total reset, load defaults and different SSIDs. usually runs for about 24 hrs then falls off the network. Cant access the router even through a wired connection. Hard reboot is the only thing I can do, which is hard on my attached USB drive. I'm ready to go back to N66U which was rock solid.

I have an AC66U and it's rock solid. I only use it as a router (no wifi, no entware, no scripts). My WAN connection is 100 Mbps symetrical and the LAN ports are occupied by 3 switches and a NAS. One of the switch is a Time capsule which also takes care of Wifi.

I have a range of set-top boxes running Linux, a few Android and Apple phones and tablets, 2 Windows 10 PCs, 1 Windows 8.1 PC, a Mac and a network printer. They are all running very fine and I haven't restarted my router since I installed Merlin 378.55 a few months ago. RAM and CPU are fine, I don't run out of resources.

First 30h on 3.0.0.4.378_9313 without freeze. Looking good so far. Also the ASUS router app for smartphones works great.

I would look to your ISP. I tried setting the 2Wire modem my ISP provided to bridge mode and I had nothing but issues with mt 87U. As you described it would run fine for 24 or so hours and the LAN led would change to purple or red and that would be it... again.

I switched to a static ip and the 87u has been rock solid since. I've gone 4/5 weeks without thinking of the router. It just works. I end up resetting because I update the firmware, not because it's dropping out.

Edit to add:

(I was at my wits end with this piece of shirt router. I paid nearly $300.00 for a nightmare. Countless calls into my ISP and hours spent trying to just make it work... please just work, you *******. Returned one 87U to the retailer after ASUS said it must be faulty. The new one did the exact same thing. Finally I spoke to someone with my ISP that explained bridge mode doesn't really work. Sometimes it will but your ip keeps changing and this is why after 24 hours it will stop working. A static ip will fix the issue. It was either toss $300.00 into the garbage or try the static ip. It's been golden since... try it, you have nothing to lose.)
