Try a nvram get odmpid after reboot and see the output.

Then it must not exist in the cfe because I'm doing it exactly as he says.

Did you do a nvram reset after flashing the CFE with the new odmpid? I did the same thing with my AC68R, and my router successfully recognizes it as a AC68U after changing the value mentioned.

Thanks Magnetron1.1

I now have a RT-AC87U with 3754 firmware.... The RT-AC87R never gets firmware updates on time... Thanks for the information.....

Hehe.. the unicorn of the RT-AC68 series - the RT-AC68W

I'd think this would be a standard RT-AC68U with a white housing...

How to turn an RT-AC87R into an RT-AC87U:
(Used serial port to make change to NVRAM right after first time boot and before making any changes through the web GUI.)
(I did this to show the initial boot-up screen, but the odmpid variable can be modified at any time and using Telnet.)

/ # nvram get odmpid
RT-AC87R

/ # nvram set odmpid=RT-AC87U
/ # nvram commit && reboot

/ # nvram get odmpid
RT-AC87U

BTW, ASUS released new firmware 3.0.0.4.376_2061 yesterday.
