    Release [Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374 LTS release 49E4

So I'm a bit confused about factory resets. I tried pressing the reset pin on the back and nothing happened. The WPS button reset worked. Then I upgraded firmware and did restore factory defaults. Then I did JFFS format on next boot. What does each of these do? Why did the reset button not do...

    Release [Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374 LTS release 49E4

Hi I just upgraded a AC56U from an old release to 49E4. How can I make a full reset? I did a factory restore from GUI + a "Format JFFS on next boot". Is there anything else I should do? I'd just like to start clean.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Just to confirm, it is the same behaviour with 33E7 as well. I also know that it's called DFS channels now, and I'd simply like to know why is it not enabled in AC56.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Hi, I've just upgraded an AC56 from 33E7 to 34E4, and did a full factory reset as I wanted to start from a clean state. My problem is that 5G channels are only listed up till 48. I have Auto / 36 / 40 / 44 / 48 offered only. Why is this? I'd like to use channels 136, etc.

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Thanks, that's the one I'm looking for!

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Thanks for the answers! I have an AC56U at home, where I need performance and it's working really well with the "Fork" firmware. N56U would be actually for my parent's place for a 120 mbps net, and all I'm looking for is a reliable 5 Ghz capable device, and the N56U looked like one. Cheaper...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

Just a tiny question, before purchasing a new router. Is the Asus N56 generally a stable and recommended router, when used with the Padavan firmware?

2 NAS which can reliably two-way sync

Hi, I would like to buy an entry level 2 disk NAS and a better workgroup performance 4 disk NAS, which can reliably sync over the internet. Would Synology NAS-es be a good candidate for this? Like a 216J + 415+ or 416 pair? Or are other brands better in this regard? The 2 bay one would have...

    Tools for custom cabling (Cat6)

Thanks! It's 600m total, max. 35 meter cables. So you recommend using a cheap managed switch for actually testing the cables?

    Tools for custom cabling (Cat6)

Hi, I'd have to do some 600 metres of custom cabling. I have always used super cheap tools for it before and I'd like to buy a tiny bit better things for it now. Can you tell me what kind of - cables - clamping tool - cable ends - testing tool would you recommend? Also anything else I...

    Guest network on APs

Thanks a lot! This seems to explain it! I was worried about the admin interface being enabled to guests, but it seems that it filters that one as well. How is your experience with Ubiquty APs? We are considering using 4 Ubiquity ACs vs 2 Ruckus N. I've only heard 100% positive things about...

    Guest network on APs

Thanks a lot for this! So just to sum it up: 1. I can just put everything on one subnet, one ethernet, no VLAN tags. Even the default wizard is ok in Ubiquty as I'd only be using one port. 2. I can set the APs to only allow access to the gateway IP for guests. 3. I don't need managed switches...

    Guest network on APs

So you are pretty much saying that the only way to solve it is via VLAN tagging. I'd have guessed the same. Now if we go with VLANs, my big question: are unmanaged switches able to pass-through VLAN tags? So if I do EdgeRouter <> unmanaged gbit switch <> wireless AP, is the VLAN tag preserved...

    Guest network on APs

I'd like to set up wireless guest networks, and I'm not yet understanding how it works properly. What I know is that the EdgeRouter Lite what I'm using has the 2 LAN + 1 WAN Wizard which sets things up perfectly for 2 hardware separated independent networks. One port is 192.168.1.1/24 other is...

Most reliable AC AP (for 20 clients+)

I totally agree with you, and I'm strongly pushing to have all laptops connected wired, and only use wireless if needed. The problem is that Apple's philosophy of not including any network ports + only including 2 USB and 1 Thunderbolt is making it a total nightmare to connect these laptops...

Most reliable AC AP (for 20 clients+)

So what you are saying is that a 3-pack 2.4 Ghz N UniFi would probably be better than a single AC?

Most reliable AC AP (for 20 clients+)

On Ubiquity forums people are talking about 30-60 users / AP. Is it really that hard?

Most reliable AC AP (for 20 clients+)

Do you think that Asus, Netgear and even Linksys would ever be reliable for 20+ devices? We now have a previously high-end Asus and it's totally rubbish. I have a feeling that these home oriented brands might be very good in benchmarks, but their software is totally not up to the task when used...

Most reliable AC AP (for 20 clients+)

Hi, I am looking for a reliable AP which can handle 20+ clients. The physical space is very little, pretty much it's a crowded office with lot of people working at shared tables. I'm looking for an AP which can handle this situation. Most laptops are newer Macs, thus they support AC. At the...

Asus AC68 Merlin or Mikrotik/Ubiquity for office

Thanks Cloud! About the edge router: do you think there is any point not going with the EdgeRouter Lite? It's quite cheap and seems that as with recent firmwares it supports everything what I'd use in a Mikrotik, like load-balancing. As far as I know, the EdgeRouter Lite would be much faster...
