    Need a good bridge

I currently own a ASUS RT-N66U router, and I am very happy with it. I have several old D-Link Ap/Bridges around the house, and for the most part, they continue to give good service (even years after I thought they would die or go completely out-of-date. But one of them, the one on my HTPC in...

    DS413: 50 M/s write from PC, but < 1 M read.

Well, I don't have this NAS, but I have been researching it pretty good, and I am nearly ready to purchase one. However, I have experience with the "slow read" problem. I would bet money that one of the new drives is marginal. I have had a similar problem with WD drives, new ones, that seem...

Question about 3rd party firmware N66U

Cool! Thanks for the replies. I think I will give Merlin's work a try. I like the fact that it is easier to install than Tomato. I am not sure I understand how to install Tomato, so I am somewhat leery of it. But, if I understand correctly, Merlin's AsusWRT installs just like the official...

Question about 3rd party firmware N66U

I have been using my new N66U router now for about a week, and I still have the stock, .112, firmware installed. I am pretty happy with it, and I am not one to upgrade or change firmware hastily. But I have been accumulating some shortcomings of the factory firmware... and I was wondering if...

    Unknown udp packet received ...

I have just recently installed a new Asus RT-N66U router, and all is working well (as far as I can tell). But when I looked in the system log, it seems to be accumulating a lot of error messages! Mostly looking like this: 5 16:58:22 miniupnpd[604]: Unknown udp packet received from...

    RT-N66U Tx Power Adjustment

Thanks! I was able to raise the transmit level to 100 and that improved my signal in my office from 50 to 72... the link rate didn't change, but I didn't really expect it to... it was already near its max of 150 for a single stream client. Again, thank you!

    RT-N66U Tx Power Adjustment

I have been playing with my new router... it works fine, but I guess I am bored, so I am playing with my new toy. I am retired, and don't have a lot to do... anyhow, that is another story. My router is still on factory firmware, .112, and I like to change things and see what, if any, affect...

    Netgear vs ASUS

The Asus N66U arrived today! I am entering this message using it. So far I am impressed. My APs report link speed increased from 117Mbps to 177mbps. This is on the 2.4ghz band... I haven't had a chance to check the clients on the 5ghz band yet. But to me, this is an impressive improvement...

    Netgear vs ASUS

Okay, I got the Asus N66U on order today. I chose it, because I saw the utube video showing the demo of the Asus N900 wifi adapter that can be used with it. Very impressive... I hope it lives up to the hype.

    Netgear vs ASUS

Access points? We've got 4 of them, a mix of Netgear and D-Link products. We already distribute the bands, some use the 2.4 others the 5ghz band. Some have no choice, like the phones and tablets, usually they just use 2.4... but most of the TVs are hooked to access points using the 5ghz band...

    Netgear vs ASUS

It is time to upgrade my network. I am currently using a D-Link DIR-825 router. I have had it for several years, and I have been very happy with it. But recently there has been an explosion of devices using it - all family members now have cell phones (almost none when it was first put into...
