    SIP Helper

It's standard 5060 and no encryption. I had it working years ago with my old router (an old PC running M0n0wall), with just port forwarding of the RTP port range. What does Rport mean? The closest thing I find in the settings is Random ports...? The phone is a Siemens Gigaset S675IP. This is...

    SIP Helper

As I said, I tried without forwarding rules too. I have tried: SIP Passhtrough: Disable, and no port forwarding SIP Passhtrough: Enable, and no port forwarding SIP Passhtrough: Enable+NET Helper, and no port forwarding SIP Passhtrough: Disable, with port forwarding SIP Passhtrough: Enable, with...

Router does not redial when connection dies?!?

A plan "modem" wouldn't receive an IP address, because it does not have a DHCP client. I have used USB modems under both Windows and Linux and generally you connect to GPRS or 3G with ATDT*99# or something like that (and then treat it like a PPP connection).

    SIP Helper

I already have registration refresh time set to 90 seconds and NAT refresh to 20 seconds... And port forwarding (virtual server) pointing both 5060 and the RTP ports to the DECT base... even for both tcp and udp (while I guess udp would be enough for the RTP ports). But I gave up years ago...

Router does not redial when connection dies?!?

It depends on the modem. If the modem really emualates a modem, there is usually a PPP connection and the router should do the dialing. If the modem emualates a network interface, the modem will do the dialing (because the router would not know a NIC needs dialing).

    SIP Helper

I cannot get incoming calls to work with any of the three settings, even when I port forward the relevant ports to the SIP dect base... Outgoing calls work fine (audio both ways too). SIP provider support only tells me to try to connect the dect base without the router.... they don't...

Access Point Mode - Parental Controls

In AP mode the router works only as a switch and an access point, the routing functions are not involved. I believe the parental controls require that the traffic passes the routing functions.

    dnsmasq no-resolv config option

On my router /etc/resolv.conf (which is /tmp/etc/resolv.conf, which in turn is a symlink to /rom/etc/resolv.conf) already contains 127.0.0.1, and there is a /tmp/resolv.conf containing the upstream name servers. Since the latter resides in /tmp it is dynamically generated by the router startup...

How to reset USB port or USB modem?

For me, those tricks didn't work. I still had to remove the modem from the port. I think the dialing is performed by pppd (if it uses regular dialup). If the modem emulates a network interface the dialup should be performed by the modem itself.

What version should I upgrade to?

Not using SSL or Samba on the router. And any vulnerabilities from the LAN side are non-issues since anyone connecting to the LAN will also have physical access to the machines on the network. XSS could be an issue if I was soneone who had dozens of browser Windows open, but I don't. I'm...

How to reset USB port or USB modem?

No it is not a pure Linux script question, it is a matter of controlling hardware from a script and that is very far from just being a script matter. There is AFAIK no generic Linux command to turn on or off an USB port. I looked around a lot for this before because an USB cell modem I used for...

What version should I upgrade to?

Yes, but are there any known security vulnerabilities in the version I am using? Save the infosvr (that I have already addressed). I keep an eye on the number of processes running, free memory etc, I think that is better then just blindly upgrading because a newer version "probably" is more...

What version should I upgrade to?

Well, it's still working as good as it did 4 years ago, so why upgrade? :) Most people I know don't even know that you can upgrade the firmware of a router.

What version should I upgrade to?

Well, two teenagers and a wife screaming at me if "the internet" is not working:) Which means I can not perform any maintenance on the router when they are home. And they are home more than me, so... I think I once had an uptime of 400+ days.

What version should I upgrade to?

I have already taken screen dumps of all settings (most are really defaults), done a backup of /jffs and will do the upgrade without the USB stick connected, so I am fully prepared to du a full new install. (The rest of family will be away all friday evening, so that's my slot to upgrade.) I'm...

What version should I upgrade to?

I have for a long time procrastinated the upgrade of my RT-AC66U. When it was running stable I didn't want to mess with it, our internet connection is used by the whole family all the time so downtime on the router is not very popular:) (I have even been thinking of buying a second router to...

    Third WAN

But that does not answer the question I asked:) Do you want to perform load balancing? Probably won't work very well (since it doesn't work very well with two WANs). Different routes for different addresses? Sure, no problem. My intention of asking the questions was to find out how the...

    Expanding Wifi Range

You are essentially trying to convince me that a central placement of the RT-AC3100 would have been worse? :)
  19. N

    Third WAN

In what way do you intend to use it? It should be possible using vlans, but I haven't looked into how vlans are used even with just two WANs so I can't give you any more details. (I've just managed to understand how the vlans are used with one WAN...) What is the output of robocfg show? This...

    Expanding Wifi Range

We may be talking around eachother here. What I said was that the best solution (when your router is located in a corner of the building) is to add access points in more central locations. I think maybe you interpreted this as that I said several access points are needed, but my key point was...
