    SATA 300 vs SATA 600

I'm no pro by any stretch, but I very much doubt you would see any difference. That said, I would guess that most people would recommend drives specifically designed for NAS use, such as WD Reds. 7200rpm drives will run hotter and be noisier.

    2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz

    Writing this on a 2nd-gen N7 @5GHz right now.

Why does this code only work sometimes?

Thank you for your responses. The debug file shows transfer stats such as this: % Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed ^M 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0...

Why does this code only work sometimes?

I have a little script that makes a call to an API to find out which port has been assigned to me by my VPN provider. The script works perfectly when I run it manually or when it is run as a cron job. A certain part of the script fails, however, when the script is called from the...

Feature Request: Device Filter for OpenVPN Client

Yep, that feature would be super handy.

Where should I put a script to take effect after all events?

Understood. I guess I should just put "touch /tmp/000[scriptname]started" in each of the user scripts, reboot, and then sort the files by modified time to get an idea of the order in which they execute for me.

Where should I put a script to take effect after all events?

It would be VERY helpful to know the exact order in which the user scripts execute when the router is booted. So as not to leave out any of the scripts, let's assume that a USB device is connected, the VPN (Server or Client) is set to "Start with WAN," and the router is finally re-booted once...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 374.40 is out

Good to hear you're taking a break, Merlin. Not only for your sake, but also because it actually inspires me to upgrade. It's too easy to put it off when there's always another release just around the corner. :D Thanks for all the hard work.

    'openvpn-event' script working?

Thanks for the help. That gets me part way there. Using "up," the script finishes, but not all the commands work. I think some are unsupported. (The script uses curl to post my IP address and credentials to an API that returns the port number that has been assigned to me, which I then add...

    'openvpn-event' script working?

Ah. Forgive my absurd ignorance. NOW I understand what you wanted me to do. :o The debugging file is now successfully created when I bounce the Client connection.

    'openvpn-event' script working?

Yes, it's incredibly easy to make mistakes! This is my first experience with Linux, and I am not a developer. I appreciate your patience. Here's the proper output: XXX@RT-N66U:/jffs/scripts# ls /jffs/scripts -l -rwxrwxrwx 1 XXX root 0 Mar 4 10:22 debug.sh -rwxrwxrwx...

    'openvpn-event' script working?

I am trying to automatically run a script when the router connects as an OpenVPN Client to my VPN provider. The script (which opens a port in the firewall among other things) works fine when I run it manually. Using this code in openvpn-event as a simple test.... #!/bin/sh touch...

    'openvpn-event' script working?

I'm having the same problem with the openvpn-event script never being called. Is this a known issue? (I am on an older firmware version (3.0.0.4.374.34_2-sdk5), but I don't see any fix for this in any of the recent release notes.)

Transmission port closes when connected to VPN

As a follow-up question, is anyone using Transmission on their router through a VPN successfully? (I.e., with the peer listening port open.) If so, which VPN service are you using? TIA.

Transmission port closes when connected to VPN

I have Transmission 2.82 installed and working fine on my RT-N66U running Asuswrt-Merlin, but when I connect to my VPN (Private Internet Access), Transmission reports that port 51413 is now closed. Any idea how I can open up the port? Apologies if this is a noob question, but I've researched...

[TUTORIAL] Native Transmission on asuswrt routers through optware

Hi TeHashX, I'm going to get rid of Download Master soon and install Transmission on a new flash drive, but I can't decide if I should use Entware or Optware. Which would you recommend? I use an RT-N66U with Asuswrt-Merlin. Thanks!

Anyone go from a WNDR3700v1 to an N66U

Have you tested without the switches? I.e., with a computer going straight into the router? Maybe the N66 and your switches don't play nicely together.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.354.27 Beta 1

With respect to 5Ghz channel selection, I believe the lower channels may be limited in their max transmission power. Here's one thread for reference: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=6430
