    Router temperatures - 2023

Interesting. I saw the Mediatek name mentioned in a proposed Open WRT router. But if ASUS already has a cool-running router maybe good to try the Asus TUF AX4200? OpenWRT wants to offer its own router

    AC86U router temperature

Why not use one 120mm USB Noctua? Runs quiet. You may also want to consider a cheap USB standing fan aimed at the rear of the router. That or put the router on a laptop cooling pad.

Beta Merlin for TUF-AX5400 is coming...

Very interesting. The Asus TUF line is known for being well designed and rugged. It may be the solution to the overheating problems with other Asus routers: "The vent location and double heatsink design improve cooling for increased stability..."

ax86u speed slow speeds compared to ISP router that is obviously less powerful

It would appear Vodafone terminates at its GPON? In our network our provider terminates at a Huawei GPON and from there we connect the Asus WAN side and get good results (the Huawei radios are disabled). Maybe this source can help:

ax86u speed slow speeds compared to ISP router that is obviously less powerful

Hard to tell from the pictures. But it looks like ONT and you cannot run away from the ISP router. Where is your ISP supplied Huawei ONT router. Cannot see it in the pictures.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.2_6 is now available

Fixed a ASUS RT AC86U with the Noctua fan solution and got a 15°C temp drop with the 386 firmware version that in my experience runs roughshod on router CPUs, contrasted with previous versions. Looking at the AX version case design, thinking of modding the front for even more cooling.

Asus RT-AC86U only solid power LED, no other activity lights

The power converter inside is kaput! Good to take apart and play with it or recycle parts.
