Can you buy decent consumer routers without Wifi?

If it's intranet transfers (within the house) your router won't have an influence on the speed since it won't be routed through it. Just pick up a 20.00 gigabit switch and hook all your devices up to it. Then connect your switch to your router. Viola, gigabit speeds inside your house. A...

    TL-ER6020 review request?

The 6020 won't even break a sweat for a 50mbps connection, the ER6120 is an overkill for most (if not all) home networks.

Expected wired speeds through wireless router?

WRT54GL's maximum routing speed is around 35 - 45 megabits/s (to the Internet). Newer routers can do 100 mbit/s+... just check the router charts here: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/router-charts/view (LAN to WAN throughput).

    When to upgrade a router

There's no point in upgrading your router yet, the WRT54GL can do about 40-45mbps NAT, so you won't gain anything by upgrading your router. However, new routers are Wireless-N so if you use Wireless you'll gain speed there. (54G is maxes out at 4 - 8MB/s vs ~ <20MB/s for Wireless N). If you...

    A Routing/multiple routers question...I need Help..

Why don't you just get a QoS enabled router and just set QoS service rules by IP address, MAC, or protocol? I think it'll be simpler than having all these different subnets... because you know the next thing your step son is going to ask is why his apps won't work because it's not port...

    Switch buying advice

A QoS enabled switch is a bit of an overkill for home use - especially with gigabit. An unmanaged switch is more than sufficient for the vast majority of residential users.

Basic questions installing Cat 5e to home theater

Yes, you should get the electrician to terminate into a patch panel. From the patch panel you connect your router and switch. This prevents damage to the jacks from frequent connection/removal. A small patch panel costs 40 - 80.00 so it's not a big investment.

Need Help Prewiring My New Home

It's cleaner to terminate in a single location - i.e. in the basement. You won't save much doing what you're thinking as you're only saving on the cabling and not on labour.

    TL-ER6020 review request?

I'm interested in the 6020 too, but unfortunately it's not available in Canada :( TP-Link Canada seems to only carry the ER6120.

    TP-Link TL-R480T+ Maximum Throughput?

The TL-R480T+ doesn't have any throughput specs on TP-Link's site... they seem to only provide it for the ER6120 and more powerful routers. Just wondering if the TL-R480T+ is sufficient for a 45mbps cable connection.

    TP-Link TL-R480T+ Maximum Throughput?

Hi all, Anyone know how many mbps the TL-R480T+ can do? I'm debating between the TL-R480T+ and the more expensive TL-ER6120. Thanks.
