High ping / jitter when connected through router

Just recently, I upgraded my Cox cable internet service to the 30 mbps plan but I had a DOCSIS 2.0 modem, so I upgraded to Motorola SB6121 which is running through my Asus RT-N56U router. I previously had no issues with lag in internet gaming, but after this switch it appears as if "something"...
