Nice changes John, so you fixed the broken asus QoS code. I know you didnt like my config, but bear in mind most of my config was to (a) have working downstream QoS, which you now fixed. (b) dnscrypt which you also now implemented. Did you get the idea to fix downstream QoS after you added...

The FCC is asking for comments on a proposal to require manufacturers to lock down computing devices

Interesting, I do sort of remember channel 100 not been available to use unless I unlocked the region. Either my memory has gone bad or asus fixed it in newer versions.

The FCC is asking for comments on a proposal to require manufacturers to lock down computing devices

Well I have found out first hand how restrictive asus UK 5ghz is. If I was using the latest asus firmware then I would be limited to just channels 36-44 on 5ghz. Up until today the past 6 months or so I have been using channel 36. Today I started noticing lots of issues on my mobile phones...

    RT-AC68U temperatures

I was initially I previously have ran two different PC fans on the back of the router. I stopped using the first as I felt was a bit too noisy. The second initially was great until the weird rattling vibration type noises. The one I tested most recently which I would like to use in the summer...

you sure thats right? I want usb both ends not 3 pin. The fan has a usb connector for power not 3 pin. So I need usb to usb. Although I guess I can use one of my pc fans, but I need to then make a stand or something for the fan as I no longer want to attach it directly to the router.

Well my fan (was still powered down) broke free from the blutak holding it to my router a few hours ago so this motivated me to do some testing. A fan I brought a month back (normal desktop fan with its own stand usb powered) I tested placed next to the router diagonally blowing air onto it, I...

not really, tcp buffers can have a huge affect, it all depends on the RTT. e.g. from eu to usa, with a small rwin, you wont get much more than a few mbit/sec at best, the kind of situation the HPN patch is aimed at. Thats easily doable on a router. Sadly john has confirmed he cannot add hpn...

what does speed up SCP and SFTP is if sshd has the hpn feature patched in. Whether or not John can do this on a embedded OS tho I have no idea. Otherwise ssh is capped to a small TCP buffer size which restricts speeds. https://www.psc.edu/index.php/hpn-ssh

For the benefit of the community my openvpn issue was caused by my openvpn server needing to send a push command to announce the gateway, it used to work without it and I dont know why it worked before, but regardless I added this to the server config and now the openvpn client correctly sets...

the different user.group thing is what I actually removed to fix the updown script (was never intentional but lines I copied by accident from server), if you want I can share my config with you. Which variable in the environment do I check to see what it is set to?

John I not touched those files, and I cannot anyway as they get copied in place, I only looked at them before to diagnose the issues I had last time. Do you know how I can check the appropriate table? Here is the output of ip rule # ip rule 0: from all lookup local 1201: from...

Seems my openvpn setup is still broken. I did have 2 problems. 1 - in policy mode no traffic was been routed to vpn, all stayed on wan. 2 - in ALL mode, traffic was routed but dns queries timed out. I fixed #2 with a router reboot and assumed all was good perhaps due to my previous testing...

    RT-AC68U temperatures

I am currently with my fan off, with summer over its hovering around 75-77C (ac68 overclocked), as people have said this is ok I am leaving it like this until my third fan arrives. It seems its really hard to buy a quiet fan now days as everyone is trying to build them cheap to get high sales...
