Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Since the encryption is entirely for the offsite backup (I'll move it via sneaker net, and it won't be on when offsite), then I think most of the issues you described I don't have to worry about. But, I look at the encryption as a door lock. It'll keep most people out. If you're really...

Recovering encrypted data on another machine

Hello. I'm looking at setting up a new nas. I have another thread here with some history of my discovery of how to proceed. For this discussions, I think these requirements are important: 4 disks Primary internal drive to store everything. Secondary internal drive to backup the primary...

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Thanks for the thoughts. I had considered many of these points. I don't want to worry about what I throw on the external drive, I just want to encrypt it all. The encryption key shouldn't be tied to the hardware and I would not go with a solution like that. Given my requirements in the OP...

Yeah :( This may push me to a custom built nas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Thanks for the feedback and info. I really want the encryption to happen on the nas so I don't have to worry about where the files come from. I guess it's not in the interest of the nas manufacturers to provide a way to decrypt outside of their system. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Ah..I think I misunderstood this. The other files you encrypt and then store on the nas right? I thought you had your nas using DiskCryptor somehow. Is that correct? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Are you using an off the shelf nas, or did you build your own? In either case, which nas system did you go with? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Are you talking about backing up your PC to the nas? That's not a bad idea. What about files you actually want to store on the nas as the central location of storing? On the nas storage I don't mind them being decrypted. For my offsite nas backup I want the entire disk encrypted. Sent from...

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

Ok, I've had quite a few views, but no responses. So, let me ask my main concern. I want to be able to get data off my disks without the nas. As far as I have researched, the typical nas vendors like qnap, synology, and asustor have not provided a way to decrypt the data they have...

    Hard Drive Recommendation

I wonder if this article holds clues: https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/nas/nas-features/31202-should-you-use-tler-drives-in-your-raid-nas Perhaps backblaze ignores these details as well.

    Hard Drive Recommendation

I've just begun researching a new NAS setup, but I thought the WD Blues had a short time idle timer which caused issues in most NAS setups. Perhaps my info is out of date, but I'm curious if anybody has had luck with WD Blue.

Wanting to upgrade my home nas and backup solution.

I have a box running WHS 2011. It's getting a little old and won't support larger drives in the backups. I'm considering replacing it. So far, I believe I have these as my requirements. First and foremost, this solution should be reliable. 4 disks Primary internal drive to store...

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

I really appreciate all the work Merlin and John have done. These firmwares rock! I'm running the latest firmware from John on an RT-AC66U and I noticed the 5ghz does not have the option of "n\ac mixed". Would you consider adding this? Thanks!

That gives a different error message. I think it was a browser cache issue. Forcing the refresh or using a private mode fixed the issue on https.

Hmmm. It may be a browser caching issue. If I switch over to a private tab https works.

No, I just set the login to use both HTTPS and http while my lan ip is 192.168.1.1. I can login on http, but https gives me the error in my original post.

I did notice when I switch the UI login to both or https, the UI just sits there saying "processing" but it never shows progress. I eventually have to log back in.

I left the netmask alone. I'll see if it is ok if i leave the lan up default.

This could be an issue already exists. I setup https login at the admin page. I was configuring all other settings. When I turned on qos, I was no longer able to get to the UI. Saw the "settings have been updated......... Use updated IP and port". Since I couldn't get to the UI, I reset...
