    AC86U overheating

FWIW - I just attached the USB fans to AC86U (running 386.4). Located in master bed room walk-in closet. CPU temps dropped 33C from 85C down to 52C. 2.4 = 55C down to 44C 5.0 = 60C down to 50C CPU = 85C down to 52C I will probably upgrade the router next year.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.17 (and 384.13_8) are now available

Updated to 384.17 from 384.12 on RT-AC86U a few days ago. 25 connections, half on 5.0 wifi. I don't have anything unique. I don't do Mesh as our home is fairly small 2,500 sq ft, one story and router is centrally located. No problem with getting 2.4 wifi in back patio/yard. TV on patio gets 5.0...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.7 is now available

I found a post in 2016 that indicates you change the Host Name in the Network Map Device List. Thanks all.

    Synology RT1900ac vs Asus Ac86u

FWIW - I just upgraded from RT-AC68P (1900) to a RT-AC-86U (2900) this week. I was running John's fork on the 68P to avoid the reported decrease in wireless range based on change in ASUS drivers a few years ago. The environment is 3100 sq ft house, all but media room on main floor, no...

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.7 is now available

I replaced an RT-AC68P (John's fork) with an RT-AC86U this week. Pretty basic setup with about 24 devices. Not using MESH. Loaded current Asus firmware for a few days and everything was stable. Loaded Merlin's 384.7_2 yesterday and did factory reset. For the most part, very stable. The...

New RT-68P - keeps trying to update firmware - Update: resolved

Problem resolved. Thx. I did the update manually. I was trying to set some passwords before doing the update but that resolved everything. Right now on latest ASUS firmware 3.0.0.3.478.4585. Will update to Merlin's FW later this week. Except for the issue of constantly trying to update...

New RT-68P - keeps trying to update firmware - Update: resolved

Just replaced an RT-66R with an RT-68P (66R power switch stuck in off position after 2 years, 2 months). Everything appears to be working fine with both wireless and hardwired internet access. Current firmware on 68P is 3.0.0.4.376_3850. If I check for firmware update, it says the firmware is...

    Broken power button

It was my turn today. Power button failed some time last night. ASUS N66U - two years and two months. Toothpick worked until I can go get another router. Last year I went thru three Samsung Galaxy S3 phones with bad power switch part ...switched to iPhone 6 two months ago. Feels like we are back...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.374.38 is out

I just uploaded 3.0.0.4.374_38_2-em from 3.0.0.4.327_31 sdk5 with reset to defaults and new SSID names. I didn't have time to evaluate the change in performance. However, it looks like I have gained about 10-15 db in 2.4 band and about 5-8 db in 5.0 band. This is from a room about 25 ft and 2...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 3.0.0.4.372.31 is out

RT-N66U: Upgraded from 272.26b to 372.2 to 372.31. Not doing anything fancy but everything appears to be running just fine.

    FW 3.0.0.4.270 and new utilities

Update 2/10/13 - Still having problems with the Google Playstore apps updates/downloads. I don't think it is a router problem as it works fine when I disconnect the Sprint Airave. I realize this is not a problem for most of you.

    FW 3.0.0.4.270 and new utilities

I bought new AVRs (Pioneer VSX-53's) and the N66U at the same time. Have had very inconsistent airplay connections and its only successful about 33% of the time. (Although I also have a Yamaha HTR-4065 AVR that Airplay works all the time on). I was going to bring the receivers back this week...

Looking for super stable router for Dad

I would suggest the ASUS RT-N65U. The performance (routing and wireless range) is excellent. Not sure it would reach everywhere in a 6,000 sq ft house but, as mentioned previously, maybe you can use some LAN cable or powerline connections for the hard to reach spots. I recently upgraded from...

New Asus RT-N65U Dualband Wireless N750 Gigabit Router

I replaced a Dlink 628 about 7 weeks ago when we moved into a new home. I initially got the Asus RT-N65U. The performance seemed incredible. The wireless coverage was much better than the Dlink (we have a 3100 sq ft house with all but one room on the main floor and a media room in the middle...
