Speed Question: NAS via Gigabit Ethernet or Same NAS via FireWire 800?

Let me get this straight. Your 2 scenario's are something like this? NAS > Gigabit Ethernet > Gigabit Switch > Gigabit Ethernet > Client PC w/ Gigabit NIC NAS > Firewire 800 > Server PC via Firewire port > Gigabit Ethernet > Gigabit Switch > Gigabit Ethernet > Client PC w/ Gigabit NIC Well In...

    Painfully slow NAS transfer speed..

The difference between SMB transfers and FTP shouldn't be that drastically different. Thats an interesting issue.

Both will be run in bridge mode, meaning neither will be doing anything other then bridging coax to cat5. You will have all 4 10/100 ports open on each to do what you want with them. Your main router will plug into the Ethernet WAN port on the one actiontec. BTW, if you have any specific...

    MoCA Questions

I have FiOS, so I am using a MoCA enabled Actiontec MI424WR. All I had to do to extend my network was buy a few more Actiontec MI424WR's ($25 on Ebay) and run them in MoCA bridge mode. Instant wired network with my existing RG6 coax. Running iperf shows a constant 100Mbp/s (12MB/s) transfer...

Router for Comcast Extreme Cable 50/10 Mbps

The WAN port on your router is 100Mbit so.... Can't hurt to try it out.

    Best router for 100Mbps Internet.

With bandwidth like that, I would want some overhead, and since most routers only have 100Mbps WAN ports, I would want one with a Gigabit WAN port. All of the routers here have Gigabit WAN ports, aswell as at least a 4 port Gigabit LAN switch. I would probably get the D-Link DGL-4500 if it was me.
