16-port gigabit with POE and fanless

Let's check some facts, shall we? As to the OPs question, would it be so terrible to use a second switch to provide your PoE? PoE is most of the time used for APs, and APs wouldn't take advantage of gigabit anyways, so I really see no harm in using a 10/100 switch with PoE for that. A couple...

    Bandwidth Clamped by Router

I know it seems kind of crotchety and grumpy and that the manufacturers all make great claims about what their wireless can do, but my philosophy has always been that wireless is terrible for any local network activity where speed actually matters. Wireless is good for browsing the internet and...

Newbie Help - Not sure where to start

I've had the netgear gs116 running for about a year with no problems. It's just a simple unmanaged switch but should be just fine for your uses. I think it costs in the neighborhood of $150 nowadays depending on where you get it from.

HP Procurve 1400-8G or 3Come Baseline 2816 for server

I've had the netgear GS116 running for about a year now with absolutely no problems. Fantastic switch if you just want a layer 2 unmanaged switch.

Anyone else getting amazing speed with Windows 7?

Using large system cache on the other XP boxes might improve things dramatically. I've had that setting enabled for a couple years on my main box before installing windows 7, but never really tweaked my other boxes to that extent. I'll try it sometime when I'm bored and curious. As far as real...

Anyone else getting amazing speed with Windows 7?

Hi guys. This is my first post but I've been a long time reader of the site and a casual forum lurker. A couple months ago I decided to try out Windows 7 so I installed the RC (build 7100). One of the things I was blown away by was the amazing speed it gave me on network file transfers. I...
