    Unable to access settings

Sounds like the router's IP address has changed because it is not the DHCP controller - probably your DSL modem or whatever is doing that job, so go in the admin settings of that thing, check what devices are connected to it, identify your RT-AC68U based the MAC address on the label on the...

Opting Out Of Cisco Connect Cloud

Recent events made me think of this thread. With the revelation that all these companies are basically in the pocket of the NSA, no wonder they wanted to track even the router traffic inside your own home. Wow....

Opting Out Of Cisco Connect Cloud

So let me get this straight Tim: if I get caught with my hand your pocket, you'd still be happy to deal with me, as long as I had some shiny do-dads to distract you with? A weasel is a weasel, even when exposed. Cisco are only sorry they got forced to stop this nonsense - but they are not sorry...

What's the best AP with high WAF Factor?

Apparently this new SMB review says that Egenius product is not so genius! :-) http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/31635-engenius-eap-300-80211-n-multi-function-access-point-reviewed Havent had any luck with this so far, so I think I'm going to have to use powerline as a...

What's the best AP with high WAF Factor?

Well it's a wooden house, so there's no shortage of ugly fire alarms already visble. But while fire alarms don't need to pass a WAF test to be accepted and installed, wifi gear sure does. :-) Main point is that I want to do a minimum of wiring, so the stairwell is a straight shot up to the...

What's the best AP with high WAF Factor?

I'm a bit hesitant with the airport extreme, as the reviews typically say it's not a great price/performance purchase. What about things like these below? Some are on the expensive side. Any value in them? The Ubiquiti and Trendnet ones seems decently priced but I know little about them...

What's the best AP with high WAF Factor?

I need to put an AP or two in a wooden house (2500 sq ft spread over a half-basement and 2 upper floors. The challenge is the wife. I've need a white access point that not only performs well (stable, high throughout), but has sufficient WAF factor (ie looks good) so that it will be approved by...

ADSL modem/router with wireless and IPv6 in UK?

Amen to the Spedtouch - I used to have the old ST516, which was an absolute rock. Not a single second of downtime. All people I knew with the 585, they ALL had issues. Then my ISP forced me to switch to Zyxel all-in-one box and what do you know - back to problems again. IMO the issue isnt...

ADSL modem/router with wireless and IPv6 in UK?

You're always better of having a separate ADSL modem and wireless outer. The modem is a well-solved problem, wheras the router is an ever-evolving one. You can get the cheapest dog of a modem and it will do what it is supposed to, where as the job of a wireless router is always in flux and...

    D-LInk DAP 2553 Connectivity Problems

I bough the DAP-2553 last autumn and have not had this problem. I am using the stick firmware it came with. I have had no problem connecting to internet via 3 windows laptops, a Windows server, Iphone 4 and a Mac Mini server edition). I suspect you may have either a bad unit, or have not set it...

    Smart Phones, a new direction??

Look at Zumocast (& Zumodrive ), which provides: - Desktop Apps for Windows/Mac/Linux - Remote Access via web + Iphone Apps (they claim they are working on Android Appl as well) This setup provides file access, including network shares if you have those shares present on the machine you are...

    Draytek routers

I suspect that they (Dreytek) are simply operating on a different strategy than the others. Many of these companies (Netgear, D-Link etc) are obviously operating on a model of high visibility, available in bix box stores and online at low margins - and they make a dinky product that they expect...

Need help choosing a router for the new home

Was it Bill Gates that said nobody will ever need more than 128MB of RAM? You're in good company, I guess. :-) For some reason, you're assuming he lives in the US, which may not necessarily the case. In Sweden for instance people have access those speeds of fiber lines to the home for a...

    New HTPC/NAS build

If you are going to have only the operating system and a programs on the first disk, then I would just get a 30GB or 60GGb SSD. 320 GB is way overkill size-wise and if boot speed is what you want, the the SSD is the way to go. I have a 30GB OCZ SSD for my boot drive with Windows 2008 R2 Sever...

    Draytek 2920n

Well the 2920n is a single band(2.4ghz) I think, vs dual band in the 3700. And it seems to perform not as good as the 3700 in the test charts here. On the other hand the 2920 does have VOIP and VPN and other features the 3700 does not have. So depends on what you are looking for I guess.

Is there a reason to buy a AP or is it better to just turn a router into one?

Indeed there are just a few makers of these wireless chipsets yet a look at the SNB performance charts shows quite a spread of performance. For example the D-link 825 and WNDR 3700 have same wireless component but different performance results in testing, which for me suggests that the...
