    AiProtection

Posted this in response to another thread but now see it was in the ASUS AX Routers & Adapters forum. So posting here as it really is more related to the ASUSWRT firmware not the hardware RT-AC68U which I have been running ASUSWRT Merlin for many years with AiProtection enabled. Used to get...

    AiProtection

RT-AC68U which I have been running ASUSWRT Merlin for many years with AiProtection enabled. Used to get lots of hits but nothing since around Feb 2021. Installed latest version of the stock ASUSWRT a few days ago (with factory reset firmware update and then another factory reset). Still no hits...

How to set up guest network without other WiFi networks?

Yup that worked. Just using 2.4 GHz radio and long random password on primary WiFi. At first I was thinking I would rather have primary off for less interference - but of course the radio is on anyway for the guest network. Having another unused SSID on it really isn't an issue for the guest...

How to set up guest network without other WiFi networks?

Maybe I phrased it badly. I would like to use the RT-AC68U for a wireless guest network - but disable all other wireless access through the RT-AC68U. The RT-AC68U will still be my main router and I will have an Orbi in access point mode for WiFi (connected by Ethernet to the RT-AC68U). I

How to set up guest network without other WiFi networks?

I use my RT-AC68U (running merlin) as my router (with wireless disabled) with an Orbi system in AP mode for WiFi. Seems like the Orbi guest networks don't isolate guests from the local network. So I would like to have a guest network on the RT-AC68U. However if if enable the 2.4 Ghz radio (for...

Slow speed using NordVPN on AC68 with latest Merlin Firmware

404 - but experience wasn't great. Even using the PC App and getting ~ 130 mbps on dslreports speed test - the online experience was very laggy with many web pages to long times to respond and load.... May try some other VPNs to see if better. Of course that without getting into the whole VPN...

Slow speed using NordVPN on AC68 with latest Merlin Firmware

Thanks that is very useful. I am also using dslreports speed test. Well I guess I won't be running OpenVPN from my Asus router with that kind of impact. Really don't want to have to set each device to use VPN (many couldn't / won't) but may be the best option until I get / build a faster...

Slow speed using NordVPN on AC68 with latest Merlin Firmware

OK - an update. Found a server where I can get around 30 - 40 Mbps with OpenVPN on the router vs 130 Mbps running NordVPN app on the PC. is 30 - 40 Mbps the max throughput on the AC68 running OpenVPN or are there things I should turn off on the AC68 that might help speed?

Slow speed using NordVPN on AC68 with latest Merlin Firmware

Just signed up for a 3 day trial with NordVPN and followed the set up suggestions here https://nordvpn.com/tutorials/asustwrt-merlin/openvpn/ I am running 380.65.4 firmware Doesn't matter what Server I try I am getting around 4 - 5 Mbps download on my 200 Mbps connection. Just spent some time...

    NETGEAR Expands Orbi Family

Yep - would be interested to know if/when anyone tries this. I am thinking of doing this.

Insufficient range/coverage for AC68, thinking of upgrading to AC88

Orbi uses a dedicated 4x4 MU-MIMO radio to connect separate AC1200 class simultaneous dual-band radios in both Router and Satellite. See review here on SmallNetBuilder http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/33028-netgear-orbi-reviewed. I am using the AC68 as my router but WiFi...

Insufficient range/coverage for AC68, thinking of upgrading to AC88

I was using AC68 with N66 as repeater and still not getting coverage I wanted (and had to reboot occasionally). Replaced with Orbi + 1 satellite. The range and speeds are now much better with no reboots needed. I get full speed (180 Mbps) of my internet throughout a three level house. I ended...

Throughput on an RT-AC68U with hardware acceleration disabled

So 6+ month later AiProtection Vulnerability Protection still kills IPv6 performance. After checking various options I have just turned off IPv6 and enabled all AiProtection options and Adaptive QOS. Get consistent 180 Mpbs down and 12 Mbps up on DSLReports test (which is the speed of my ISP...

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

When I put the Orbi back into router mode I had removed the Asus AC68 - that's why I didn't understand why I was getting 10. and 192. addresses?

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

Tried using my Asus AC68 (running Asuswrt merlin) as my router and the Orbi in access point mode. Performance wasn't as snappy (and running with AiProtection on really slows IPv6 speeds). So switched back to using Orbi as the router. When I look at the IP address of the attached devices all...

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

My Orbi system did a factory reset yesterday. We had a power outage during a s storm. The Orbi managed this fine - its on an UPS and we have a backup generator that comes on after 30 seconds when power goes out so Orbi didn't even know about the power outage. The power was out for 4 - 5 hours...

Would be great if the wireless reviews included security

It is the test result using dslreports speed test (https://www.dslreports.com/speedtest) from the client. Not really interested in whatever the Orbi speed test says - the dslreports test is more robust and the test from client shows what clients actually gets...

Would be great if the wireless reviews included security

So a quick update after using the Orbi for a few weeks. WiFi coverage is stunning - throughout the house clients that can get full speed see 180 /12 from dslreports speed test (comcast seems to over provision 150/10 to these speeds) and the outhouse / garage gets reliable connection and better...

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

Understand the backhaul can be up to 1733 I was more trying understand the actual backhaul link rate?

    Netgear Orbi discussion thread

Looks like you are right - however Acrylic says channel width is 80Mhz for both the backhaul and client 5GHz? Max rates are reported by Acrylic as 1733.7 and 866.7 respectively?
