Load Balanced Dual WAN - Routing Rules

Sorry to dredge up an old thread. I have a similar situation, where I have a dual WAN, but I want only certain devices to use the Primary WAN and the rest to use only the Secondary WAN. I already have everything being assigned their own static IPs. My reasoning is I don't want low priority...

    Dual WAN with 1:0 Ratio

Oh, ok. That method hadn't occurred to me. I also don't know how to do that, so I'll have to look it up. It sounds like a better idea though. Can this be done with my single router? I already manage my DHCP with all known devices having assigned IP addresses, but I've never monkey'd around...

    Dual WAN with 1:0 Ratio

    So... No input then?

    Dual WAN with 1:0 Ratio

Apologize in advance for the noob question/possibly repost. I search around on google without getting an answer that I could make sense of, so here I am. Long story short, the apartment building I moved into has built-in internet, but it would only provide users with private IP addresses. (No...

    Wireless Connection issues

Hi, thanks for the input! My router and monitor are both pretty high up. Router on the top of my desk's shelf unit, and the monitor on top of a wardrobe closet. Current firmware of my router is 3.0.0.4.378_9313. It's telling me there's an update, but it doesn't want to execute it for some...

    Wireless Connection issues

I have an AC68 running in my apartment. I've got a whole smack load of stuff from my phones/tablets to my scale to my Sonos set to my air purifiers connected it to it with little issue, but I have one device that occasionally acts up. The feed from my D-Link WiFi Baby monitor (DCS-825)...

[SOLVED] Trying to find my weakest link

I figured it out. It's because it was copying from an external USB2 drive. The transfer from the internal drives goes at about 75MB/sec, so that seems more reasonable. That drive has been connected to my PC for so long, I forgot it was external! Oops...

[SOLVED] Trying to find my weakest link

Thanks for the input. I missed one detail though, which is that the transfer was between my PC and the NAS, both of which are wired to the router. I'm thinking now that it might speed up if I shut off the wireless access, so those devices wouldn't slow down the network?

[SOLVED] Trying to find my weakest link

Wasn't sure which forum was appropriate for this post, but it deals with wireless, so here I go. So I've finally gotten my home network setup the way I wanted. Or at least how I best figured it should be set up. I'm not having any outstanding issues, and everything works perfectly fine...

    RAID5 vs SHR (again?)

I suppose it kinda is. A single bay NAS isn't going to hold 12TB though. I never really considered not using a RAID setup even in a 4-bay unit though. I just assumed RAID5 or SHR would be idea in that scenario. Just trying to figure out which is better in my case. Basically, I guess I'm...

    RAID5 vs SHR (again?)

That sounds like a good setup too. The setup I'm coming from is three individual USB external HDs, most of which containing different parts of the same library of media. They all have the same folders organized in the same way, just different contents inside. It's ridiculous really. I want...

    RAID5 vs SHR (again?)

I'm sure this has come up before, but looking on the forums, I couldn't find the answers, so here I am again. So, I'm a little confused on which I should go with given my circumstances: I decided to go with a DS414, and load it up with 4x WD Red 4TB drives. Everything I read raves about...

Pondering NAS for home - DS414, or wait?

For the record, there would be most likely only one person sharing media at any given time. Max two. Just me and the Mrs. My thinking was that for my purposes, a DAS on a small server would do the same as a dedicated NAS, and cut down on a bit of network traffic. Rather than a device...

Pondering NAS for home - DS414, or wait?

Thunderbolt, designed by Intel, is widely used on Macs, but isn't Mac exclusive. There is PC hardware that can make use of it. That wasn't my point though, a small windows server box connected directly to a DAS vs a NAS, was my though. I guess that goes back into DIY territory, but it...

Pondering NAS for home - DS414, or wait?

Promise has these Pegasus thunderbolt DAS units that outwardly appear decent, though I don't know anything beyond that about them.

    Is a UPS essential?

I quite agree. I setup an older APC UPS a few years ago at my father's house, since he has a fair number of power glitches through out the year. He uses a Mac, so it had to install the APC's software on my laptop and connect it to the UPS to disable the beeping, but it kept the settings once...

Pondering NAS for home - DS414, or wait?

After looking into DIY NAS components, it would seem you're right. I did however come across these cute little Intel's NUC units, and other similar Mac Mini style computers. I figure I could set one up to act as my media server and automated task handler, and thus completely avoid the "NAS...

Pondering NAS for home - DS414, or wait?

My recent reading has suggested that the new Atom SoC with the built-in transcoding requires specific software support, which is as of yet not wide spread. Sounds like the D2700 is the way to go for now, without resorting to wads of cash for an i3 based unit.. which I won't be doing. If that...

    Is a UPS essential?

Wow, thanks everyone for your input! I've been convinced. I've also been looking into UPSs, and it seems APC and CyperPower are the brands to consider. I'm seeing chatter about whether or not a UPS supports sine wave power flow, but is that something I need to worry about provided I intend to...

Pondering NAS for home - DS414, or wait?

Also valid points. I currently have a number of individual USB HDs plugged into my PC, which I never intended from the start. Data piles up though, and one drive became many. Not crucial data though, so I'm not too worried about it's "physical" safety. My important data is backed up in...
