DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

Roger, Well, that provided some interesting results, and produced more questions. First, I did as you said, limited my DHCP range to 2.10 to 2.200. Then I gave it an address of 2.3 and gave it it's own SSID. Per normal, it didn't show up on the browser. BUT, when I went into my phone's...

DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

OK. I can do that. But now I'm out of my depth. If I can't see it / control it on a browser, how can I tell if it's working as an AP?

DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

Roger, So that's where I'm thinking my problem is. I know I have to use an address that's outside the DHCP allotment, and I tried that. But it doesn't really matter because, as I stated, if I use any subnet other than 0, the device disappears. I can no longer reach it through my browser...

DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

My gateway (AT&T piece of **** 2Wire, which I'm replacing on Tuesday with a Zyxel that I will configure as a bridge) is 192.168.0.1. My ASUS is 192.168.2.1

DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

Connorm, Yes, that hasn't varied from attempt to attempt. I was talking about your point #5: "5. make sure the router ip address is in the same subnet." If that third number is anything other than 0, I immediately lose access to the device.

Whats are Pro and Cons connecting a external hardisk to wireless router

thmsantosh - It sounds you have a very similar setup to mine, only we use PS3s instead of Xboxes ;). In my case I also sought the "advice of the internet". The best advice I got, and subsequently followed, was to build a simple Windows 8 based server. My total budget was $500 USD and I...

DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

Roger and Connorm, Thanks for the advice. I knew if I didn't specifically mention the LAN/WAN port thing, someone would bring it up. That's my fault, I've should've included that as literally EVERY POST emphasizes that. So that's not the issue. The "same subnet" issue however, has...

DIR-655 refuses to cooperate as access point

Now that my new ASUS RT-AC56U is comfortably ensconced in my environment, it's time to replace one of my switches with the old DIR-655 as an access point. There are a BOATLOAD of how-to's on the net. I've read any number of them. They all say essentially the same thing: • Disable UPnP™...

Looking for advice on DSL modem purchase

It's funny - I feel the same way. This is my only exception. Most of the time these fees are just another way for them to squeeze a few more dollars out of you, and you rarely get any value for it. But I make an exception in this case only because I've gotten my value on numerous occasions...

Looking for advice on DSL modem purchase

Steve, Thanks for the advice. I want as many POVs on this as I can get. However, if I want to stop paying the $7 monthly lease on that unnecessary modem, I have to buy my own. I'm not using the wireless on the 2wire anyway, I've disabled it. All my wireless is provided by the ASUS router I...

Looking for advice on DSL modem purchase

Thanks in large part to help I received from Tim on this forum (Thanks Tim!) I just completed an upgrade from an N router to an AC router (D-Link DIR-655 to ASUS RT56U). Now I want to purchase a dsl modem so that I can stop leasing my AT&T modem. Yes, I now realize I should have thought this...

    Seeking topology configuration advice

Thanks Tim. Very helpful stuff. It's drops and disconnects that are plaguing me right now - all devices equally. I looked at the inSSIDer website but, as much as I'd like to, I don't have $200 to drop on an analyzer right now. I have Ethernet throughout the house, so it's easy to connect an...

    Seeking topology configuration advice

Since I really only know just enough about networking to be dangerous - I'm open to any advice you experts wish to proffer. My current setup= AT&T gateway: 2Wire 3800HGV-B, router behind gateway: DLink DIR655, behind that are 2 4-port gigabit switches and 1 8-port gigabit switch. On the...

    ASUS RT-AC66R vs. RT-AC66U

Also at Newegg The general consensus seems to be that they're effectively identical; but I did see an R for sale at Newegg as well. So it can't be just a BB thing.
